COVID has brought a plethora of changes in every aspect of our day-to-day life. When it comes to food habits, there is a preferential shift from taste and experience to health and safety. The focus is now on nutritious food. Casting aside dieting, calorie counting and food weighing - a new wave of healthy eating is slowly gaining ground in a steady manner.

This eating habit starts with your attitude (tuning in and really enjoying what you are eating), focusing on food that makes you full and really satisfies you, not to forget the amount of nutritional value that comes along with it. A certain amount of mindfulness is coming in, as far as food is concerned, and that is indeed a good sign.

Focusing on nutrition

The nutritive value of food gives the body the vitality it needs to generate energy to carry out physical activities. This vitality is answerable for our heart pumping, our lungs breathing and our balanced body temperature. Calorie counting is usually assumed to be an effective measure for weight loss.  Whereas, consuming nutritious food will help make the immunity system stronger and ultimately keep one’s health in check.

People are encouraging clean and sustainable eating in their daily meals. More and more people are now focusing and spending money on eating and getting nutritional and healthy foods and this is the only positive impact that COVID-19 has brought and will leave us with probably realizing the value of sustainable eating brings along.

As a result, there is a growing demand for food items and ingredients that are farm-grown and organic in nature. With the lockdown being imposed and restaurants shutting their doors for dining, people have started to replace their favourite junk food with healthy and home-cooked food. For example, while preparing a pizza at home, many people have also started replacing the unhealthy elements like refined flour and processed cheese to using hung curd as the base and replacing processed cheese with vegan cheese.

Vegan

Veganism is fad

Along with this, veganism is also being considered as a food preference by many.  This can go far in bringing back the delight of taste and experience alongside well-being and security. Its clinically favourable circumstances are also being seen, from pivoting diabetes to effectively reversing cancer. Overall, the change in eating habits amongst people is a great move and is the need of the hour. We have also seen many global as well as Indian food brands replacing meat with vegan meat and also adopting vegan-style of menu.
