How Drinking has Become First Choice for Social Gatherings

It is always said that in a young nation when we have so many millennials or young crowd that is hitting the bar more often, there is so much to drink and order depending on one’s own choice.  We will discuss here on how this next consumer generation is eating and drinking, and where, when and how they are consuming it.

Experimentation in Drink

People no more go to a restaurant or bar to have their favourite food or cuisine, today they are more into drinking. With new sets of bars and nightclubs hitting up the top cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad to name a few, drinking culture has become a social purpose. And, hence people are experimenting beyond the traditional drinks.

“I think there were people who used to go to a bar to drink but these days people go out for an experience and drink definitely is a hero,” shares Ankur Chawla, Sommelier and Beverages Expert by adding that what people order or love to eat depends on the trend. These days’ people are going to a restaurant to experiment, try and particularly in terms of beer there were no options few years back. Now you have a lot of options and people want to try. “There is huge change with gin. There used to be 4-5 brands of gin but today you have around 25 brands of gin registered in Delhi which you can easily order,” he adds by pointing that the trend is about experimentation. There is so much with Cocktails. People go to certain restaurants for their cocktails and drinks etc. Hence, we can say that price is not the point today, it is about how you offer, how popular are you globally, are you really into the content or just into gimmick.

It’s about Food People can Co-relate

Gone are the days when we used to dine socially now we drink socially. So, the priority has changed from just dining to drinking. People are looking for an experiment rather than just one product or one thing on the table. “Drinking remains the priority when it comes to socializing, meeting friends or being on the table with your loved ones. In terms of food there is no much change. Comfort food has taken the centre-stage today. It is much about fun food, finger food with no fine presentation,” points Vishal Atreya, Managing Partner, The Pump House by adding that once you are drunk and you are happy , you only need food that makes you comfortable deep down. People also want food that they co-relate to.

Hence, with change in the drinking trend, nightlife scenario in the country is definitely changing with new age bars popping up the neighborhood locations targeting the young, affluential crowd who is always ready to try and experiment new trends and culture in the sector.
