Starbucks is growing at a faster pace in last four years. From Setting up first outlet in 2012 to touching 84 number counts, the cafe chain has become one of the top most global player in India region. Sumitro Ghosh who took charge as MD and CEO of Tata Starbucks last year, talks about his plans to grow Starbucks in India. Sumitro who himself was a Starbucks veteran was born and brought up in the US.

How do you see Market for Starbucks growing in India?

I am very pleased to see the growth in India in last four years. India is one of the fastest international growing markets after US in the history of Starbucks. With more than 80 stores running in India we see market for more stores and opportunities in India.

What is your expansion plans?

We are expanding ourselves aggressively in the market we are in. We are looking for opportunities wherein we are experimenting with different formats at the same time we are getting revolutionary.

What makes Starbucks cafes stand out from the crowd?

It’s number one cafe globally. Also, the environment we create at our stores are all about premium experience, we only buy premium coffee beans in the world and we pay more to get them in the market. With all of that being said our quality and craftsmanship of the beverages we believe that the product and environment that we create at our outlet is to cherish upon.

What are some of the customer experiences that you focus on?

It’s the magic of the Starbucks and the partners behind. The livelihood that we do with high historic coffee, amazing beverages and fantastic food is uncountable. But our partners who connect with customers in bringing a human connection is beyond everything.

Since you are from global team of Starbucks. What are some of your experiences that you will garner here in India?

Highlighting and exaggerating the experience of our partners and customers in India and making the coffee community in India is what my focus will be.

What is the USP of your cafe?

The minute a customer walk in the door the beverages is becoming made to order. It’s what we do different and it’s all about bringing experiences. We are launching a technology from where you can order and pay on phone at any Starbucks cafe. And, before you reach the cafe your order is already ready.

What is view on the growing trend of coffee culture in India?

It’s an amazing coffee culture in India. Though we are known for a tea drinking nation but there is a community of enthusiastic people out there who are looking for premium cafe experiences.
