(Newly launched) Ophelia Offers Authentic Mediterranean and European Fare

Owned by Akshay Anand and Ashish Begwani, Ophelia is a newly opened Mediterranean Tapas bar and restaurant next to the Ashoka Hotel in the heart of the capital. Curated by the renowned Turkish Chef Ahmet Algan, the menu has been divided into European and Mediterranean dishes along with some handcrafted signature cocktails.

The name Ophelia has been taken up from one of the characters of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The interior draws the inspiration from the Renaissance era. From the indoor sitting, patio to their washroom, there is touch of glamour and luxury everywhere. It offers a cosmic play of a bespoke Mediterranean experience serving the rare and authentic recipes with legendary flavours.

The design concept poses with elements of crystal chandeliers, wooden panelling and mirror display with a touch of Victorian style ceiling and classy marbled flooring - bringing out the plush and stylish vibe of the ‘new & old’. With the lavish interiors and cabanas on wooden decks, Ophelia is modern yet minimalistic.

From warm soups like Tomato Consommé and Chicken Veloute to organic Prawn Avocado Organic Grape Salad, the menu opens with inviting and delish Starters.  Crusty mushroom caps with spinach stuffing and enoki salad, Duck Pate with orange glaze, Chicken Filo Pie, mascarpone and confit bell peppers are some of the dishes in starters.

It has interesting Mediterranean and European dishes like Risotto with Beetroot, Mascarpone and crackers, home-made pasta with pappardelle, pulled pork ragout, seafood cappelletti, Aglio Olio, Fettucine Alfredo to name a few. In mains, meats and seafood, the menu has dishes like Corn Fed chicken breast with mashed potatoes, charred baby veggies and Madeira jus, herb crusted New Zealand lamb rack, baked sole, Crispy Belgian pork belly. The desserts at Ophelia are a fine display of texture, technique and tonality. Chocolate Mushroom with Belgian praline, Lemon pie with fresh strawberries, Nanaimo Bar with ganache are some of the sweet dishes to relish there.

The cocktails are versatile, inviting and handcrafted with an aim to make fizz even fancier. Lick Me First, their signature vodka based drink stirred with gomme syrup, orange juice, dark chocolate, almond and lime juice is worth every sip. The Gold Lust is gold rum infused with Elderflower syrup, kaffir lime. Flowery Ophelia is a chamomile infused tequila with maple syrup and lime. Another drink called the Gentleman Choice comes with whiskey, orange chunks along with home-made cinnamon syrup. Overall just as the names of the dishes and drinks suggest, the experience is lavish and phenomenal. Whether Indians, who are familiar with the Mediterranean cuisine or not, Ophelia will surely not going to disappoint.
