Restaurant India News: Tommy’s Opens at Old Airport Road in Bengaluru

In a city known for its breweries and buzzy nightlife, Tommy’s brings back the magic of the no-frills neighbourhood bar — where the drinks are strong, the food hits the spot, and the vibe is unmistakably Bengaluru.

Located on Old Airport Road, Tommy’s is a 120-seater neighbourhood bar with a rich legacy and a fresh identity. The address has been home to a watering hole since 1966—first as the iconic HAL Bar, later as Krupa’s and Sai Krupa—and now, it’s been lovingly reimagined as Tommy’s: a vibrant, character-packed bar that honors its storied past while stepping confidently into the now.

Cat-themed memorabilia lounges throughout the space—from portraits to bar accents and even a feline greeting at the entrance. The décor leans into retro charm: cassette-tiled walls, sticker-laden windows, vintage music posters, and a rare, handcrafted Rock-Ola jukebox—one of only four in the country—ready to take your song requests.

The bar menu is as diverse as its crowd: easy-sipping cocktails, beloved classics, and elevated pours. Highlights include the perfectly balanced Tommy’s Margarita, the punchy Batanga, the old-school Suffering Bastard, and a throwback Strawberry Daiquiri. Beer lovers can choose from a rotating lineup of draughts, while the backs bar stocks everything from Dom Perignon to rare Japanese whiskies for the connoisseurs.

The food menu channels comforting familiarity with a mix of Indian bar bites and hearty classics. Think egg bhurji, bheja and gurda masala, mutton seekh, biryanis, peppery masala papad, chilli cheese naan bites, and homestyle curries that feel both nostalgic and satisfying. And in a cheeky nod to Bangalore’s single-screen theatre culture, there’s even a popcorn machine on the counter.

“Bengaluru has always had a culture of everyday drinking, not in excess, but in ease. With Tommy’s, we wanted to bring back that spirit of no pretence, just solid food, great drinks, and a place that remembers your regular,” said Sujay Venkatesh, Founder of Tommy’s.
