Restaurant India News: Paul John Whisky Launches AArambh Single Cask Release with Just 180 Bottles

Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky has announced the launch of AArambh, an exclusive single cask release created in collaboration with The Cask Circle, a whisky enthusiast community based in Pune. Drawn from Single Cask #20523 and finished in a second ex-bourbon cask, the limited-edition release is bottled at 50 percent ABV and is restricted to just 180 bottles.

The launch has attracted industry attention as all 180 bottles were allocated before bottling was completed, making it one of the most exclusive releases from an Indian whisky producer in recent years.

AArambh has been selected independently by The Cask Circle and sourced from John Distilleries, the producer of Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky. The release reflects the growing influence of enthusiast-led whisky communities in shaping purchasing trends and premium product demand within India's spirits market.

Single Cask #20523 is an unpeated single malt distilled in November 2017 at John Distilleries in Goa. The whisky was matured in two ex-bourbon casks, undergoing an initial maturation followed by a finishing period in a second cask before being bottled in 750 ml bottles. As a true single cask release, the whisky has been bottled without blending, preserving the characteristics of the original barrel.

Paul P. John, Chairman, Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky, said, "AArambh is a word that carries a great deal of meaning for us. Every single cask release we have done has been a beginning of sorts, a new conversation, a new benchmark. But this one feels particularly significant. The fact that 180 bottles found their homes before we had even bottled the whisky tells us something profound about where Indian whisky has arrived. We are no longer just making whisky for the world to discover. We are making whisky that India is proud to collect."

The collaboration was the result of nearly 2 years of discussions between the whisky brand and The Cask Circle, reflecting the increasing role of consumer communities in influencing premium spirits launches.

Dushyant Bhatia, Founder, The Cask Circle, said, "AArambh is the result of nearly 2 years of discussion, exploration, and deliberation. The cask reflects the intent of a community that chose it well before bottling. We were not looking for whisky to sell. We were looking for a whisky that said something, about where Indian single malt has arrived, about what community-led appreciation can look like, and about the kind of whisky culture we want to build in India. The fact that every bottle found a home before it was bottled tells us that the community felt the same way."

The release comes as India's premium whisky market continues to mature, with whisky appreciation clubs and tasting communities expanding beyond traditional metropolitan markets. Industry observers have noted growing participation from enthusiasts in cities such as Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai, alongside established whisky markets like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
