Conversation Room Bar Opens in Kolkata with Global Standards and Local Appeal

Conversation Room, a new bar blending a neighborhood vibe with international cocktail standards, opened on November 9 at 1 Edward Court, Jawaharlal Nehru Rd, Elgin, Kolkata. Designed as a space for fostering in-person interactions, the bar combines a thoughtful beverage and food program with a vibrant atmosphere, marking a unique addition to Kolkata's hospitality and retail scene.  

Spread across 3,000 sq. ft. with 88 covers, Conversation Room aims to provide a welcoming environment for patrons. Its beverage program, led by Countertop India, features an array of inventive cocktails and a curated "Wine Wall" highlighting ten approachable wines selected by Prithvi Nagpal. Cocktails like the “Eavesdropper” (Tequila, Cointreau, cranberry, and Schezwan sauce) and “Smooth Talker” (Scotch, vanilla, caramel liqueur, and bitters) showcase a balance of creativity and accessibility.  

Abhimanyu Maheshwari, Founder of Conversation Room said, “We wanted to create a space that feels truly unique to Kolkata yet could fit in among the best bars in Bangkok or Singapore. Our goal is to foster a space where human connection is at the heart of every experience.”  

The bar’s food program, crafted by Chef Saurabh Udinia—known for his work at Masala Library and Revolver—emphasizes comfort with a global influence. The menu features dishes like Chicken Liver Paté with House Crisps, 3 Mushroom Curry with Thyme Rice, and Caramelized Honey Butter Toast, blending local and international flavors. Chef Udinia noted, “We wanted the menu to resonate deeply with locals while offering an experience that feels fresh and exciting.” 

Founded by Kolkata-based entrepreneurs Ramesh Agarwal and Abhimanyu Maheshwari, Conversation Room builds on their experience with previous ventures such as Roots and Refinery 091. These establishments have played a key role in shaping Kolkata’s evolving nightlife scene. Ramesh Agarwal commented, “With Conversation Room, we’re excited to create a space that raises the bar in Kolkata, putting it on the map among global destinations for nightlife.”
