The Dravidian Opens in Mumbai, Plans QSR Expansion Across India and Overseas

Ambros World Foods (AWF) has launched The Dravidian, a quick service restaurant (QSR) brand on Hill Road in Bandra, Mumbai, bringing dishes from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh under one menu. The company plans to expand the concept to cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Nagpur, with international markets also part of its growth plans.

The brand’s menu combines familiar South Indian staples with regional dishes and traditional meal formats. Offerings include benne dosa, idli, Mangalore Buns, puttu with Kadala Curry, appam with vegetable stew, Kuzhi Paniyaram and Andhra-style Mirapakaya Bajji. Regional thalis include Tamil Nadu Meals, Karnataka Oota, Kerala Sandhya and Andhra Bhojanam. Prices start at Rs 119 for idli.

The Dravidian is built around a QSR model that combines traditional recipes and cooking techniques with standardised processes and streamlined kitchen operations. Its approach includes preparations associated with South Indian home cooking, such as fermented batters, freshly prepared spice blends and traditional tempering, within a format designed for faster service.

The outlet’s interiors draw on South Indian residential and temple architecture, incorporating textured walls and pillars inspired by traditional structures, alongside contemporary lighting and a layout suited to quick-service dining.

Miten Shah, Co-Founder, Ambros World Foods (AWF), said, “From a business perspective, The Dravidian is built around a strong proposition: a cuisine that is deeply rooted in Indian food habits, offers everyday comfort, and has the potential to appeal to a wide consumer base. We see an opportunity to build a scalable QSR brand by bringing the diversity of four South Indian states into one accessible format. For franchise partners, our focus is on creating a structured business model backed by operational systems, menu standardisation and AWF’s experience in building and managing food and beverage brands. The aim is to make regional Indian cuisine a compelling, long-term business opportunity.”

Abhilash Menon, Co-Founder, Ambros World Foods (AWF), said, “Being Malayali, South Indian food has always been close to my heart. It is not just about idli, dosa or a few familiar dishes; it is about the traditions, ingredients, cooking techniques and unique flavours that define each region. Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh each have a distinct culinary identity, and there is so much more to discover beyond what people commonly associate with South Indian cuisine. Through The Dravidian, we want to celebrate that diversity with authenticity and respect, while presenting these wonderful food traditions in a format that today’s generation can enjoy and connect with.”

For AWF, the concept is intended to combine the everyday demand for South Indian food with a wider regional menu and a repeatable operating model. The company’s planned expansion across multiple Indian cities and international markets will determine how the format develops beyond its Mumbai flagship.
