Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking its entry into the retreat hotel category in Sikkim. The newly opened property features 38 rooms and is located on a hilltop in Pangthang, offering direct views of the Eastern Himalayas, including Mount Kanchenjunga.
The retreat is positioned to cater to travellers seeking quieter, experience-led stays focused on nature and extended relaxation. Although the property is accessible from Gangtok’s main town, its elevated location places it away from urban activity, aligning with growing demand for slower and more immersive travel formats.
Sumit Mitruka, Founder & Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “Gangtok and the surrounding region are seeing growing interest from travellers who are looking for deeper engagement with nature and a strong sense of place, beyond conventional sightseeing. Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects our evolving approach to destination-led hospitality in the mountains, where wellness, environment, and local context come together in a subtle and thoughtful manner. This opening strengthens our presence in the Northeast and aligns with our long-term vision of developing distinctive destination hotels.”
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang comprises 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. Each room includes a private balcony with views of the surrounding mountain landscape. Select suites feature separate living and dining areas, supporting longer-stay formats. In line with regional climate conditions and sustainability considerations, rooms do not offer air conditioning or minibars.
Wellness forms a key part of the retreat’s operating model. The property includes a spa offering specialised treatments, along with designated areas for yoga and meditation. These facilities are designed to support rest-focused travel and complement the property’s natural setting.
The retreat also houses a multi-cuisine restaurant serving Sikkimese, Indian, and international cuisine, along with a sun deck overlooking Mount Kanchenjunga. For events and group gatherings, the property offers a banquet facility of approximately 5,000 square feet with capacity for over 500 guests, positioning it for destination events, retreats, and private functions.
Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang is part of the Summit Signature Series, which focuses on experience-driven properties with higher emphasis on design, service standards, and destination integration. With this addition, Summit Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its portfolio in the Northeast, targeting leisure travellers, wellness-focused guests, and small groups visiting Sikkim and the Eastern Himalayan region.
