Summit Hotels & Resorts has signed two new boutique properties in North Bengal, expanding its presence across the Darjeeling–Siliguri corridor, a key tourism region in Eastern India. The company will develop Summit Gulma River Resort in Siliguri and Summit Falling Water near Darjeeling, with both properties planned as 30-room developments focused on nature-driven hospitality formats.
The Siliguri property is scheduled to open on 15 August, while the Darjeeling project is expected to be operational in early January 2027. The expansion reflects a broader industry trend of developing smaller boutique properties in high-demand leisure destinations rather than large-format resorts.
Summit Gulma River Resort is located in the Gulma area of Siliguri, overlooking the Gulma Tea Estate and a river. The property is being positioned to cater to both leisure and event-driven demand. It will include a mix of standard and studio-style rooms with kitchenettes designed for extended stays. The hotel will also feature a restaurant, bar, spa, gym, and a banquet hall with a capacity of around 150 guests, targeting weddings, social events, and corporate gatherings in the region.
The second project, Summit Falling Water, is being developed at Rangbull, approximately 3 kilometres before Darjeeling town, along the main highway. The property draws architectural reference from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater concept, integrating built structures with the surrounding landscape. The hotel is being constructed over a natural water stream and will offer 30 rooms with private balconies overlooking the stream and nearby hills. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway track runs in front of the property, providing direct views of the heritage train.
Sumit Mitruka, Founder of Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, "North Bengal continues to be one of the most compelling tourism regions in Eastern India, with demand driven by leisure travellers, weddings and the growing popularity of experiential hill destinations. With Summit Gulma River Resort in Siliguri and Summit Falling Water near Darjeeling, we are focusing on boutique properties that are deeply connected to their surroundings. Whether it is tea garden landscapes in the plains or a stream flowing through a hill property with views of the toy train, our aim is to create stays where the destination itself becomes the central experience for travellers,"
The Darjeeling property will also include a restaurant, coffee shop, spa overlooking the stream, gym, and parking facilities. Seasonal snowfall during winter months is expected to support demand for offbeat travel experiences.
With these additions, Summit Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its presence in the Eastern Himalayan region, focusing on boutique-scale developments that integrate local geography, accessibility, and experience-led stays, aligning with changing consumer preferences in the leisure travel segment.
