Restaurant India News: Powai Welcomes House of Pleo as Sundowner Culture Gains Momentum in Mumbai

House of Pleo, a rooftop venue in Powai that focuses on the growing demand for structured early evening dining and drinking formats. Positioned around the concept of sundowner culture, the venue is designed to attract working professionals seeking accessible, neighbourhood-based options for post-office socialising.

The outlet integrates an open-air rooftop format with cabana-style seating, aiming to balance a relaxed setting with a high footfall, high-energy environment during peak evening hours. This aligns with a broader shift where operators are investing in early evening revenue streams rather than relying solely on late-night dining and bar traffic. The space transitions from a low-intensity sunset setting into a more active social environment, targeting group dining occasions such as team outings and casual meetups.

A key focus area is the beverage program, which has been structured to drive differentiation through signature cocktails. The menu includes combinations such as Pleo Reign, featuring tequila, vodka, absinthe, and capsicum, and Yuzu Skydrop, which blends apricot puree, agave, gin, and yuzu. Other offerings include Sunset Drift, built on dark rum and red fruit profiles, and Evening Ember, which introduces a beer-influenced element. The inclusion of alcoholic golas reflects an attempt to localise the experience while maintaining novelty within the cocktail segment.

On the food side, the menu curated by Chef Hitendra Gaikwad follows a shareable small-plates format, a model that continues to perform well in urban bar-led establishments. The offering combines Indian snack formats such as Chana Jor Garam and Masala Papad with global items including Truffle Cheese Pops, Korean Dragon Prawns, and Mediterranean-style dishes. The inclusion of wood-fired pizzas, tandoor-based grills like Chicken Yakitori and Dakshin Prawns, and comfort-focused appetisers indicates a strategy to cater to varied consumer preferences while maintaining operational flexibility.

“House of Pleo was created as a space where people can come together over great cocktails, good food, and music without having to leave the neighborhood. Powai felt like the perfect place to bring this rooftop experience to life,” shares Nirmal Patel.

The launch reflects a targeted approach to hyperlocal dining markets, where accessibility, experience design, and time-specific consumption patterns play a critical role. By focusing on early evening engagement, House of Pleo enters a competitive but expanding segment that prioritises convenience, ambience, and curated menus over traditional fine dining formats.
