Swiggy has increased its platform fee by 17 percent, taking the charge to Rs 17.58 per order from Rs 14.99 earlier. The revision comes shortly after rival Zomato implemented a similar increase in the same category.
Billing details on the app indicate that the hike translates to an increase of around 17 percent or Rs 2.59 on a pre-GST basis. The updated charges are now visible to users, with the company stating that the revision is intended to help it "operate and maintain the platform".
The move follows closely after Zomato raised its platform fee by about 19 percent last week, adding roughly Rs 2 per order. With the latest revision, both platforms are now charging nearly similar fees of around Rs 17.58 per order, including GST.
According to app-based billing data, Zomato’s pre-GST platform fee currently stands at Rs 14.90 per order, compared to Rs 12.50 earlier. The company had initially introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 per order in August 2023 and has gradually increased it across major markets over time.
The increase reflects rising cost pressures across the food delivery ecosystem. Higher input costs, including energy expenses such as LPG and crude oil, have impacted both restaurant operations and delivery logistics, prompting platforms to adjust pricing structures to maintain operational viability.
Zomato had last revised its platform fee in September 2025, after increasing it to Rs 10 per order from Rs 6 during the February festive period. The recent revisions by both companies indicate a broader trend of pricing recalibration as platforms look to sustain margins in a competitive and cost-intensive environment.
On the market side, shares of Swiggy were trading at Rs 273.40 on the BSE, up 0.33 percent. The stock has declined more than 10 percent over the past one month, nearly 40 percent in six months, and about 20 percent over the past year. Meanwhile, shares of Eternal, the parent entity of Zomato, saw an increase of around 2 percent following the platform fee hike announcement.
