Nepal-based restaurant chain Jimbu Thakali has entered the Indian market with the opening of its first outlet at M3M 65th Avenue, Sector 65, Gurugram, marking the brand’s international expansion. The restaurant brings the traditional cuisine of Nepal’s Mustang region to Indian diners after establishing four outlets in Kathmandu.
The brand focuses on the culinary traditions of Nepal’s Thakali community, offering dishes prepared with regional ingredients, seasonal produce and family recipes that have been passed down through generations.
Named after jimbu, a Himalayan herb commonly used in Nepali cooking, the restaurant also incorporates Timmur, Nepal’s native pepper, into several dishes as part of its signature flavour profile.
The menu is led by the Thakali Thali, featuring rice, jimbu-flavoured lentils, seasonal vegetables, potatoes, gundruk, radish pickle, tomato chutney and a choice of chicken, mutton, fish or vegetarian preparation. Other offerings include Kanchyamba (Buckwheat Fries), Mutton Momo, Chicken Choila Wings, Sukuti Sadheko, Timmur Chicken and Buckwheat Thakali Jimbu Nachos.
Founder Vivek Sherchan said, “Opening in India has been a longstanding dream for us. We wanted our first restaurant here to introduce guests to the food we have grown up eating. Thakali cuisine is simple, seasonal and ingredient-driven, and we hope diners discover a side of Nepal that goes beyond the familiar.”
Spread across 2,500 sq. ft., the restaurant has seating for 80 guests. Its interiors are inspired by the architecture of Nepal’s Mustang region, featuring handcrafted Newari-style wooden windows and natural materials that reflect traditional Himalayan design.
The Gurugram launch marks Jimbu Thakali’s first step into the Indian hospitality market as the brand looks to introduce authentic Nepali regional cuisine to a wider audience.
