Aakhol Opens in Hyderabad, Bringing Authentic Assamese Cuisine to Kokapet

Hyderabad's growing interest in regional Indian cuisines has welcomed a new addition with the opening of Aakhol – An Assamese Restaurant in Kokapet. The restaurant brings traditional Assamese cuisine and cultural influences to the city, offering an authentic home-style dining experience inspired by Northeast India.

Founded by Alpaxee Kashyap and her husband Akhil, Aakhol traces its roots to a family legacy in the food and hospitality industry. Kashyap's maternal grandfather established Laxmi Cabin in Guwahati's Fancy Bazar in 1942, while her parents later founded Aarian Woods, a boutique resort in Guwahati.

After moving to Hyderabad in 2019, Kashyap found limited access to authentic Assamese food in the city. In 2025, she started Aakhol as a home kitchen operating on a one-day pre-order model. The concept gained popularity among the Assamese community and local diners, eventually leading to the launch of a standalone restaurant.

"When I moved to Hyderabad, I realised I missed more than just the food—I missed the feeling of home. Aakhol is our way of sharing that feeling with the city while giving fellow Assamese a place they can call their own. We hope every guest leaves with a deeper appreciation of Assam's cuisine, culture and hospitality," says Alpaxee Kashyap, Founder, Aakhol.

The restaurant serves traditional Assamese dishes without modifying recipes to suit local tastes. The menu includes Bamboo Shoot Fish, pork and chicken preparations, vegetarian and non-vegetarian Assamese thalis, along with regional specialties such as dali bota, fish chutney and sesame chutney. Key ingredients including bamboo shoots, xoru aloo and kaji nemu are sourced from Guwahati.

The restaurant's interiors are inspired by traditional Assamese homes and include a legacy wall and a curated collection of Assamese literature, offering guests an introduction to the region's culinary and cultural heritage.
