The Penang Table, a new Malaysian restaurant by restaurateur Kishore DF, has opened in Bandra, Mumbai, introducing the city to a wide spectrum of Malaysian flavours. Kishore DF, known for Pot Pourri, Lemon Grass, Seijo & The Soul Dish, WTF and Tanjore Tiffin Room, brings another concept rooted in Southeast Asian cuisine.
Spread across 34,000 sq ft, The Penang Table features airy interiors with large windows, hand-painted tiles, bamboo blinds and earthy tones. Malaysian-inspired murals blend with Indian motifs, creating a space that balances comfort with cultural storytelling. The menu led by Head Chef Mitesh Rangras, draws from Malaysia’s diverse culinary influences like Malay, Chinese, Indian, indigenous and colonial. Dishes feature staples like lemongrass, pandan, tamarind, galangal and a range of fresh and dried spices that define Malaysian cooking.
The restaurant offers comforting soups such as Sup Sayur Campur, Asam Laksa and Nattu Kozhi Rassam, along with refreshing salads including Tender Coconut & Avocado and Jicama Salad. Signatures include Malaysian-style dumplings, satays, Roti John, Roti Canai and a chargrill selection featuring Banana Leaf Grilled Fish and Parmesan Crusted Portobello. Guests can also enjoy Malaysian street classics like Nasi Lemak, Curry Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Mee Goreng Mamak, and curries such as Rendang and Chicken Kari Kapitan. The bar programme by Mixologist Pranav Modi pairs the food with cocktails infused with pandan, kaffir lime and lemongrass.
Kishore DF, Founder, The Penang Table said, “I have been in the restaurant business for the last three decades in Mumbai and we pride ourselves in introducing its people to flavours and cuisines that did not find space here earlier, whether it was with Lemongrass Café or Tanjore Tiffin Room. With The Penang Table, we want to put the spotlight on Malaysian cuisine which has so far not received its due in the city.”
Parth Purandare, Co-founder, The Penang Table shared, “At The Penang Table, we wanted to bring something new to the city — a cuisine that truly represents the cosmopolitan spirit of Asia. Malaysian food is a beautiful confluence of cultures, flavours, and traditions, and yet it remained largely undiscovered here. For us, it’s about celebrating that diversity and giving people a taste of the world they’re curious to explore.”
He adds, “It has all the quintessential ingredients that appeal to the Indian palate with its spices, curries, rice and rotis, and we feel this is the right time to bring this melting pot of flavours to the discerning customer.”
