Mumbai’s culinary landscape welcomes a new regional dining concept with the launch of Devangere Benne, a restaurant dedicated to preserving and presenting the authentic flavours of Karnataka. Paying homage to the birthplace of the iconic benne dosa, the restaurant focuses on sourcing key ingredients — from batter to butter — directly from Davangere to ensure an experience that stays true to its roots.

Devangere Benne differentiates itself through its commitment to traditional preparation methods and authentic taste profiles. The brand’s culinary direction emphasizes consistency, technique, and respect for regional heritage. Beyond its signature benne dosa, the restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring South Indian snacks, wholesome thalis, artisanal filter coffee, and a variety of beverages including lassi, chaas, fresh juices, and masala chai. The restaurant’s operating philosophy positions it as an all-day dining venue catering to diverse dining occasions — from lunch to evening coffee sessions.

The kitchen is led by Chef Khushal, known for his expertise in South Indian and modern vegetarian cuisine. His approach combines classic flavours with refined presentation to appeal to contemporary diners. At Devangere Benne, he focuses on preserving Karnataka’s culinary identity through in-house spice mixes, hand-prepared batters, and traditional cooking methods. His menu highlights include the Benne Masala Dosa, Gini Dosa, Kadi Patta Cashew Idli, Baba Dosa, Stuffed Medu Vada, and Vellayappam. Chef Khushal also oversees culinary operations at Sora by The Nines, maintaining a balance between heritage and innovation across both brands.

The restaurant’s 2,500 sq. ft. space has been designed to mirror the warmth and simplicity of Karnataka’s culture. The interiors feature natural wood, brass, terracotta tones, and handcrafted décor that blend regional aesthetics with a modern layout. Artwork and heritage-inspired elements further enhance the dining experience, offering guests an environment that reflects both comfort and authenticity.

Behind the concept is Mahesh Shetty, a hospitality entrepreneur with a proven track record of developing successful dining brands such as Times Square in Borivali, Namaskar The Family Restaurant, and The Nines in Juhu. His focus remains on building dining spaces that foster community and connection through food. “My favorite part of starting a restaurant is watching an idea turn into an experience that people connect with. Each concept has its own story, but the goal is always the same: to make guests feel at home. Continuing that legacy means staying true to the core values of warmth, consistency, and community that started it all,” said Shetty.

With its focus on authenticity, heritage, and quality, Devangere Benne aims to establish itself as Mumbai’s leading destination for Karnataka cuisine.
