
The Westin Sohna Resort & Spa has introduced its latest signature dining experience, Tangra – Tales of Chinatown, a restaurant inspired by the historic Tangra neighbourhood of Kolkata. This new concept celebrates India’s first Chinatown, a community where culture and cuisine evolved together to create the distinctive Hakka-style Chinese food known and loved across India.
Tangra is designed as an immersive dining experience that captures the essence of Kolkata’s Chinatown. The menu revives classic dishes like Chimney Soup, Shao Mai, Braised Wontons, Tai Po, Yam Mein Noodles, and Tangra-style Chilli Chicken and Paneer. It also features seafood options such as Prawn Gold Coins, Golden Garlic Lobster, and Mandarin Chilean Seabass, alongside vegetarian preparations including Seven Treasure Vegetables, Vegetables in Cilantro Sauce, and Claypot Vegetables in Chilli Bean Sauce. Signature festival dishes like Buddha’s Delight highlight the spirit of abundance, while tableside preparations such as Steamed Fish add a sense of performance to the dining experience.
The dessert and beverage menus continue the storytelling approach with nostalgic favourites like Darsaan and Fried Ice Cream, and cocktails such as Loong, Weishiji, and Red Dragon. Each element is designed to echo the flavours and cultural vibrancy of Chinatown. What sets Tangra apart is its focus on authenticity elevated through refined presentation and premium ingredients. The restaurant also sources select items from family-run makers in Kolkata’s Chinatown, ensuring that traditional recipes and flavours from the 1950s are preserved in every dish.

The restaurant’s design draws inspiration from the symbolic and layered aesthetic of Kolkata’s Chinatown. Guests enter through a koi pond and timber doors, flanked by granite guardian lions symbolising strength and prosperity. Inside, a parasol-inspired chandelier casts a warm glow across tables featuring Mahjong tile–inspired gold inlays etched with traditional inscriptions. An open kitchen becomes the focal point, where the aromas of garlic, soy, and chilli enhance the experience of dining as a sensory performance.
The seating layout fosters the communal dining spirit that Chinatown is known for, using artisanal tableware and a blend of nostalgic and modern design. With 32 indoor and 24 outdoor seats spread across 4,300 sq. ft., Tangra balances intimacy with a contemporary sense of space.
Set within the 60-acre expanse of The Westin Sohna Resort & Spa, just a 40-minute drive from Gurgaon, Tangra is envisioned as more than a restaurant—it is a cultural experience that bridges heritage and hospitality.
