Bellona Hospitality has announced the opening of CHA Hong Kong Eating House on Church Street, Bengaluru, marking the brand’s first move beyond the mall-based format. The launch positions CHA as a standalone high-street restaurant, signalling a strategic shift toward deeper consumer engagement in prominent urban dining corridors.
Originally launched as a compact outlet under an escalator at Phoenix Palladium Mall in Mumbai, CHA later expanded to Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore through mall locations. The Church Street outlet represents the brand’s first independent street-facing presence. Conceptualised by Prashant Issar and led by Chef Sagar Sarkar, the new restaurant retains the core identity of CHA while adapting it to a high-footfall neighbourhood known for culture-led dining and retail activity.
The menu continues to focus on Cantonese-inspired comfort food, with an emphasis on dimsum as a key category. Offerings include vegetarian and non-vegetarian dumplings, stir-fried dishes, bao, wonton bowls, rice and noodle-based bowls, and wok-led mains. The menu also features small plates, seafood preparations, and desserts rooted in Asian flavours. According to the company, the intent is to maintain familiarity for existing patrons while expanding variety and scale for a broader dine-in audience.
Beyond dimsum, the menu includes Cheung Fun rolls prepared in soft and crispy formats, a selection of bao with fillings such as Spicy Korean, Char Siu Chicken, and Roast Lamb, and wonton bowls inspired by regional folding styles. The bowl section draws from multiple flavour profiles, including Shanghai, Sichuan, Cantonese, and Mongolian styles. Main course options include dishes such as Cantonese Black Bean Chicken, Hunan Hot & Tangy Prawns, Mongolian Lamb, and Mapo Tofu. Desserts include formats such as Deep-Fried Ice Cream, Sticky Rice with Mango, and Ginger Milk Pudding.
The interiors of the Church Street outlet have been designed by Minnie Bhatt Design. The 1,800 sq. ft. space is structured to reflect the compact and high-energy nature of Hong Kong eating houses, adapted for a Bangalore audience. The layout includes an open dimsum kitchen, an open bar format, and mobile dimsum trolleys moving through the dining area. Visual elements across the space reference both traditional and contemporary Hong Kong street culture, while encouraging interaction and movement within the restaurant.
Prashant Issar, Managing Director, Bellona Hospitality, said, “Bringing Cha to Church Street is a move beyond malls into spaces that truly connect with people. With this new space right in the heart of the city, our aim is to bring the authenticity of Cantonese Purity and the Yum Cha tradition into an environment where it can truly thrive. The upbeat cultural energy and community engagement of Church Street aligns perfectly with Cha’s vision. This move allows us to deepen our connection with guests, express the brand’s identity more freely, and offer an experience that is both comforting and energising — one that reflects Hong Kong’s high-street vibrancy while elevating Bangalore’s dining landscape.”
The Church Street opening reflects Bellona Hospitality’s broader focus on modern Asian dining formats that combine cultural storytelling with accessible menus. CHA Hong Kong Eating House is positioned as a key addition to Bengaluru’s high-street restaurant landscape, targeting repeat footfall, longer dwell time, and a stronger brand-led dining experience outside the mall ecosystem.
