Restaurant India News: ASHA Café Combines Hospitality Training and Employment Opportunities

ASHA – The Hope Café has been launched in Delhi Cantonment with a focus on creating hospitality training and livelihood opportunities for youth with special needs from armed forces families.

The café has been established through Corporate Social Responsibility support from Diageo India under its United Spirits Limited business, while operational guidance will be provided by the Army Women’s Welfare Association. Positioned as a social enterprise within the hospitality sector, the café has been developed to combine café operations with structured skilling programmes aimed at long-term employability and entrepreneurship development.

The initiative will offer training across hospitality operations, bakery, café management, finance, and entrepreneurship while also creating direct employment opportunities for participants. The project has additionally been designed as a scalable model that could potentially expand to other cantonment locations in the future.

Industry experts note that hospitality-led social enterprises are gaining attention in India as foodservice and café businesses increasingly integrate skilling, inclusion, and community employment into operational models. The café has been developed as a professionally managed establishment featuring artisanal food and beverage offerings along with modern café infrastructure, reflecting growing demand for purpose-driven hospitality formats.

Devashish Dasgupta, Director- Corporate Relations at Diageo India (USL), said, “Through our Learning for Life programme, we have worked to build skills and enable employment opportunities in the hospitality sector for youth, persons with disabilities and now members of the armed forces and their families. We’re proud to partner with AWWA on this project.”

The launch highlights the increasing role of hospitality businesses and CSR-led partnerships in supporting workforce development and inclusive employment models within India’s foodservice and café industry.
