Malgudi Takes South Indian Resto-Café Format to Delhi With Rajouri Garden Outlet

Malgudi, The South Indian Resto-Café, co-founded by singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and entrepreneur K. S. Ramakrishnan, has opened a new outlet in Rajouri Garden, New Delhi, as the brand expands its presence across India.

The new restaurant follows Malgudi’s South Indian-focused resto-café format, combining traditional dishes with a contemporary dining setup. The outlet includes a Filter Kaapi Barista Station and an open kitchen, with the concept aimed at catering to coffee-led visits, family dining and casual group occasions.

For Shankar Mahadevan, Padma Shri awardee and global music icon, the concept is connected to his personal experiences with South Indian food and family traditions.

"The love we've received across our Malgudi outlets has been incredibly heartwarming and has reaffirmed our belief that South Indian cuisine has a truly universal appeal. With our newest outlet in Delhi, we're excited to bring the flavours, traditions and stories that inspired Malgudi to an even wider audience. This brand is deeply personal to me because it celebrates the food and memories I grew up with while presenting them in a way that resonates with today's generation." – Shankar Mahadevan, Co-Founder, Eatopia.

"The New Delhi launch is another important milestone in Malgudi's journey. We wanted to create a space that feels welcoming to the community while staying true to our vision of celebrating the richness and diversity of South Indian cuisine. We are excited to bring the Malgudi experience to Delhi and look forward to becoming a part of the city's evolving food culture." – K. S. Ramakrishnan, Founder, Eatopia.

The menu spans South Indian staples, contemporary interpretations and vegetarian and Jain-friendly options. Key dishes include the Mulbagal Legacy Dosa, described as a 100-year-old recipe exclusive to Malgudi, along with Ven Pongal Arancini, Podi Cheese Balls, Anna-Style Crispy Lotus Root and Butter Pepper Garlic Water Chestnuts.

The larger menu includes Bisi Bele Bibimbap, Paneer Ghee Roast with Neer Dosa, Sri Lankan Tamil Curry with Idiyappam and Sanchi’s Vegetable Stew with Appam. Other vegetarian offerings include Uthappam, Curd Rice and Rasam Mini Idli.

The beverage programme centres on filter coffee, with beans sourced from Chikmagalur. It includes drinks such as Kaapiccino, Indiano and filter kaapi prepared with ghee and jaggery. The mocktail menu also uses South Indian ingredients, including guava, pomegranate and Guntur chilli in The Malgudi Picante.

The Rajouri Garden opening adds a Delhi location to Malgudi’s expansion plans, with the brand continuing to build its resto-café format around South Indian food and filter coffee.
