Malgudi, the South Indian resto-café co-founded by singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and entrepreneur K. S. Ramakrishnan, has opened its second outlet in the Delhi-NCR region in Gurugram. The brand plans to expand further across key locations in Delhi and the NCR.
The café brings together traditional South Indian recipes and contemporary dining. Its menu features regional dishes, vegetarian and Jain-friendly options, along with signature filter coffee. Key dishes include Mulbagal Legacy Dosa, Paneer Ghee Roast with Neer Dosa, Sri Lankan Tamil Curry with Idiyappam, Paneer Nellore Biryani and Dindigul Biryani. The menu also offers South Indian comfort food such as curd rice, uthappam and rasam mini-idli, alongside desserts including Elaneer Payasam and Filter Kaapi Panna Cotta.
Coffee is a key part of the experience, with a dedicated Filter Kaapi Barista Station serving traditional filter coffee and contemporary variations such as Kaapiccino and Indiano. The café also offers a range of non-alcoholic beverages.
For Shankar Mahadevan, Malgudi is a deeply personal expression of the food, traditions and memories that shaped him. “The love we've received across our Malgudi outlets has been incredibly heartwarming and has reaffirmed our belief that South Indian cuisine has a truly universal appeal. We expanded in the North with the Rajouri outlet and now with our newest outlet in Gurugram, we're excited to bring the flavours, traditions and stories that inspired Malgudi to an even wider audience. This brand is deeply personal to me because it celebrates the food and memories I grew up with while presenting them in a way that resonates with today's generation,” says Shankar Mahadevan, Co-Founder, Eatopia.
For K. S. Ramakrishnan, the expansion is an opportunity to bring the brand's vision to a new community while preserving the culinary traditions at its heart. “The launch in Gurugram is another important milestone in Malgudi's journey. We wanted to create a space that feels welcoming to the community while staying true to our vision of celebrating the richness and diversity of South Indian cuisine. We already opened an outlet in Rajouri and now we look forward to introducing Gurugram to the Malgudi experience and becoming a part of its evolving food culture,” says K. S. Ramakrishnan, Founder, Eatopia.
With its Gurugram opening, Malgudi aims to bring South Indian food traditions to a wider audience through a mix of familiar regional flavours and modern café dining.
