Santosham, a South Indian vegetarian restaurant specialising in Satvik, temple-style food, has opened a 60-seater outlet in Malad, marking its entry into Mumbai’s western suburbs. The restaurant brings its traditional family recipes and banana-leaf meals to the neighbourhood.
Founded by mother-son duo Bhagyalakshmi Gohokar and Chittaranjan Gohokar, Santosham follows the philosophy of prasadam, focusing on traditional cooking and hospitality. The Malad outlet comes after customers from the western suburbs sought a restaurant closer to home.
The menu features an unlimited Satvik Banana-Leaf Sadhya, along with dosas, idlis, ven pongal, tiffin sambar and traditional chutneys. Many dishes are prepared without onion and garlic, while batters, podis and pickles are made in-house. Bhagyalakshmi, Co-Founder and Head Chef, oversees more than 200 family recipes, while Chittaranjan, Founder and CEO, leads the brand’s business strategy and expansion. The menu also includes family favourites such as Parippu Pradhaman and Karuveppilai Podi, inspired by childhood memories and home cooking.
Designed by Minnie Bhatt Design, the new restaurant combines contemporary interiors with the brand’s traditional South Indian food philosophy.
"Malad is especially significant for Santosham because it marks our first foray into Mumbai’s western suburbs. Guests from this part of the city have travelled to our other outlets for years and repeatedly asked us to come closer to them. This opening allows us to bring Santosham into their neighbourhood while continuing to share the food, traditions and warmth that have shaped our journey," says Chittaranjan Gohokar, Founder and CEO, Santosham.
Bhagyalakshmi Gohokar, Co-Founder and Head Chef, Santosham adds,"For me, Santosham has always been about carrying forward the food I grew up with the recipes, the rituals and the feeling of being cared for through a meal. With Malad, we are bringing that same spirit into a new neighbourhood. Whether it is a banana-leaf Sadhya, a simple dosa or a cup of filter coffee, we want every meal to carry the warmth and generosity of home.”
With Malad marking a new chapter for the brand, Santosham continues to build its presence across Mumbai, bringing its family recipes, Satvik cooking traditions and South Indian hospitality to new neighbourhoods.
