India’s festive season is driving an unprecedented surge in food delivery volumes, reflecting the country’s growing appetite for convenience-driven celebrations. According to Swiggy data, food orders across categories such as sweets, thalis, and desserts saw consistent growth during key festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, and Durga Puja.
Between 22 and 30 September 2025, Swiggy recorded over 99,000 orders for Sabudana Khichdi, more than one lakh for Vrat Thali, and nearly 70,000 for Sabudana Vada. Mumbai and Bengaluru led the demand for Sabudana Khichdi, while Delhi, Gurgaon, and Lucknow preferred Vrat Thali. On Ashtami, orders grew by 11.58 percent compared to the previous year, with 2.2 lakh orders placed within just one hour between 8 and 9 PM.
Swiggy’s quick delivery service, Bolt, gained significant traction, registering maximum orders from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi. Tier-two markets like Surat and Thiruvananthapuram also showed strong engagement. Domino’s topped dessert orders, with cakes and sweets dominating the segment.
In Kolkata, Durga Puja orders increased by 11.26 percent over last year, with biryani remaining the most ordered dish. One Kolkata customer even placed an order worth Rs 18,000, underscoring the enthusiasm around festive dining.
Earlier this season, Ganesh Chaturthi witnessed over 2.2 lakh modaks ordered, while Raksha Bandhan recorded a 32 percent rise in total orders compared to 2024. The trend highlights how food delivery has become an integral part of India’s festive consumption pattern—merging tradition with modern convenience.
