Restaurant India News: Suntory Whisky Toki Black Debuts at Indian Airports, First Limited Edition in Nearly a Decade

Suntory Whisky Toki has unveiled its first-ever limited-edition release, Toki Black, marking a major milestone for the brand and The House of Suntory. The new whisky made its debut in Global Travel Retail and select international markets, including India, where it is available at Delhi Duty Free, Ospree Duty Free, and select airports.

Toki Black represents Suntory’s continued focus on innovation while staying rooted in its Japanese heritage. The expression combines Hakushu heavily peated malt and Hakushu grain, creating a more complex and smoky profile than the original Toki. The whisky is designed to reflect the balance of tradition and modernity — a theme central to Japanese craftsmanship.

“As our first release in nearly a decade, Toki Black marks a significant milestone for both Toki and The House of Suntory,” said Masaki Morimoto, President, The House of Suntory. “The name ‘Toki,’ meaning ‘time,’ represents a deep part of Japanese culture—where reverence for tradition meets bold innovation. This limited-edition launch reflects that philosophy, offering a contemporary expression that honors our heritage while engaging a new generation of whisky enthusiasts.”

The launch of Toki Black is accompanied by a music and film collaboration featuring Grammy-nominated producer Terrace Martin and Japanese jazz musician Ryota Nozaki (Jazztronik), symbolizing the blend of old and new that defines the brand’s creative ethos.

Toki Black builds on the approachable character of the original Toki, offering additional layers of richness and subtle smokiness. The whisky opens with aromas of baked apple, oregano, and honeysuckle, followed by butterscotch sweetness balanced with clove, cinnamon, and toasted rosemary, and ends with notes of white pepper, ginger, and a lingering smoky finish. The 86-proof whisky is ideal for sipping neat or enjoyed in a Toki Ginger Sour.

Currently available in 1-litre bottles as a channel-exclusive offering at select airports, Toki Black will be introduced across key international hubs including Singapore, Dubai, South Korea, London, Sydney, Melbourne, Doha, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, and Paris. Following its success in travel retail, the whisky is set to make its domestic debut in India next year, aligning with the festive season.

“With the launch of Toki Black in global travel retail, we’re tapping into the growing interest in premium blended whisky—especially in a space that’s perfect for storytelling and discovery,” said Nandini Valio, Senior Marketing Director. “Today’s travelers are looking for fresh and creative experiences. Toki Black is our way of inviting both existing and new consumers to explore the brand through a richer, bolder flavor that deepens their connection with the Toki brand.”

Toki Black also reinforces The House of Suntory’s commitment to authenticity and transparency, adhering to the Japanese Whisky labeling standards established by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association (JSLMA). As the only organization of Western liquor producers recognized under the Liquor Industry Association Act, the JSLMA plays a key role in maintaining quality standards and promoting Japan’s whisky reputation worldwide.

With Toki Black, Suntory strengthens its position in the premium spirits category, blending craftsmanship, innovation, and cultural storytelling to deliver a new expression for global whisky consumers.
