Marriott India has achieved its World Environment Day 2026 target of planting 125,000 trees across its portfolio of more than 200 hotels in the country, reinforcing its focus on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.
The initiative builds on the company's 2025 milestone, when it planted 100,000 trees nationwide. For 2026, Marriott India expanded its commitment through its "Four Trees Per Room" initiative, aimed at creating a measurable environmental impact across its operations.
The programme witnessed participation from associates across the country, with 7,713 employees collectively contributing more than 21,000 volunteer hours towards tree plantation and environmental conservation activities. Marriott India's portfolio of over 30,000 rooms played a role in supporting the initiative, reflecting the company's strategy of integrating sustainability goals into its broader hospitality operations.
Working in collaboration with local authorities, environmental organisations, non-governmental organisations, and community partners, Marriott India conducted plantation drives across multiple cities and regions. The initiative focused on restoring green cover, supporting biodiversity, strengthening local ecosystems, and contributing to long-term climate resilience.
Sanjay Gupta, Chairman, Marriott India Business Council, said, "At Marriott India, sustainability is not simply an initiative—it is a responsibility that is deeply embedded in how we operate and engage with our communities. Following the achievement of planting 100,000 trees last year, we challenged ourselves to go even further through our Four Trees Per Room commitment. The enthusiastic participation of our associates and hotels across the country reflects our collective commitment to environmental stewardship. Together, we are creating a greener future while contributing meaningfully to the wellbeing of our communities and the planet."
The Westin Pune Koregaon Park introduced a series of sustainability-focused activities designed to encourage environmental participation among its workforce and local communities. The latest milestone reflects the growing emphasis on sustainability within the hospitality industry, where environmental stewardship is increasingly becoming an integral part of business operations and stakeholder expectations. Beyond tree plantation efforts, Marriott India continues to implement initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, sustainable sourcing, and community-based environmental programmes across its hotel network.
As hotel companies increasingly align operational strategies with environmental goals, Marriott India's achievement highlights how large hospitality portfolios can leverage scale and employee participation to support broader sustainability objectives while contributing to local communities.
