Restaurant India News: L’Opéra Launches Alfred Nobel-Inspired Pastry Across India Outlets

The Embassy of Sweden, in partnership with L'Opéra, has introduced an Alfred Nobel-inspired pastry and dessert concept in India, marking a collaboration between diplomacy, hospitality, and premium bakery retail.

The dessert was launched on 4 May at the Embassy of Sweden during an event focused on art, science, and culinary innovation in tribute to Alfred Nobel. The pastry has been created by Kevin Duthel and will be available across all L’Opéra outlets from 10 May 2026.

H. E. Jan Thesleff, the Ambassador of Sweden, said, “Every year, cafés and bakeries across Sweden create desserts inspired by the dessert served at the Nobel Prize Banquet. This year marks a special milestone as for the first time, a Nobel-inspired pastry has been created and launched in India.” He added, “I hope this will be the beginning of a long-lasting tradition.”

As part of the event, a portrait of Alfred Nobel was unveiled before being displayed at L’Opéra Art Cafe at Bikaner House. The partnership highlights the growing role of premium bakery brands in experiential hospitality and cultural collaborations. L’Opéra was selected for the initiative due to its European-style pastry positioning and its focus on culinary innovation.

The pastry concept draws from Scandinavian culinary influences and uses ingredients such as sea buckthorn, cardamom, buckwheat, and Assam tea crémeux. The dessert also incorporates design elements inspired by Swedish aesthetics, including a triangular structure and edible gold detailing featuring the initials “AN”.

Kevin Duthel said, “I knew where I wanted to go. Scandinavian gastronomy has been democratised over the last fifteen years — through chefs who championed a hyper-local approach. I had the flavours: berries, smoke, rye. The challenge was to build them, to harmonise them. For the design, I looked at the Swedish design culture — wood, warmth — and of course the Nobel theme, rendered in gold.”

Kazem Samandari said, “We are deeply honoured to have been chosen by the Ambassador of Sweden, H. E. Jan Thesleff, to be part of this initiative” and added, “and to help begin what we hope will become an annual tradition.”
