Restaurant India News: Gong Opens in Bandra, Bringing Progressive Pan Asian Dining to Mumbai

Gong, a Pan Asian restaurant by Specialty Restaurants Limited opens in Mumbai. Located in Bandra’s Linking Road, the restaurant combines contemporary Asian cuisine, immersive interiors, and a globally inspired menu to offer diners a refined yet approachable experience.

Designed by Sumessh Menon Associates, Gong officially opens as a culinary destination that blends progressive cooking with thoughtful spatial design inspired by the resonance and rhythm of a gong. The interiors follow the concept of “Asian [Sound] Soul,” translating sound into space through earthy tones, brass and bronze accents, organic textures, and fluid architectural elements.

The kitchen is helmed by Chef Sahil Singh, Chief of Culinary & Operations – Innovation & New Formats, whose experience across Indian and international markets shapes a menu focused on clarity, technique, and balanced flavours. Gong’s offers Mumbai’s largest sushi programmes, featuring nigiri, sashimi, uramaki, signature rolls, and omakase selections. Highlights include the Avocado Truffle Roll, Hamachi Jalapeño Roll, Scallop Dynamite Roll, and Aburi Toro Nigiri.

Gong also introduces Chuka and Itameshi concepts within a Pan Asian format for the first time in India. The Chuka section focuses on Japanese-style comfort bowls such as Mapo Tofu with miso butter rice and Dan Dan Udon with kombu butter, while the Itameshi menu blends Japanese and Italian influences through dishes like Udon Carbonara with Kurabuta bacon and Wafu Pizza with shisho pesto mushroom. Signature offerings include Tuna Tataki with truffle salsa, Hokkaido Scallops Tiradito, Spinach-wrapped Chilean Sea Bass dumplings, Miso Chilean Seabass, and Crispy Chicken Sando.

Complementing the food is a cocktail programme inspired by Asian ingredients and flavour profiles. Drinks such as Kasumi, Korin, and Amai Netsu balance fruit, botanicals, and spirits, while options like Tsuchi and Akai Koji offer deeper umami-driven notes. Gong also features an extensive zero-proof menu with beverages like Konatsu, Yuka, and Seika, catering to evolving consumer preferences for mindful drinking.

Speaking on the launch, Avik Chatterjee, Executive Director, Innovation & New Formats at Specialty Restaurants Limited, shares, “With Gong, we wanted to create something that feels familiar but still offers new discoveries. Whether it’s the sushi, the introduction of Chuka and Itameshi, or even the way the space comes together, it’s all designed to come together naturally for the guest.”

With its wide-ranging menu, strong sushi focus, and thoughtful additions to the Pan Asian space, Gong brings a fresh, well-rounded dining option to Mumbai.
