Restaurant India News: CGH Earth Launches Sanctuary Amaidiyana Near Auroville with Wellness Focus

CGH Earth has announced the launch of Sanctuary Amaidiyana, a 23-key resort and spa located on the outskirts of Auroville. The development reflects the growing focus on wellness-led hospitality formats that integrate accommodation with curated lifestyle and experiential offerings.

The property has been positioned around holistic well-being, combining wellness services, cultural engagement, and food experiences within a single format. The concept aligns with rising demand for destination-led stays where guests seek slower, experience-driven travel.

The name Amaidiyana, derived from a Tamil term associated with peace and calm, reflects the brand’s approach to building context-driven hospitality assets. The resort has been designed to integrate with its surroundings, with an emphasis on local sourcing, craft, and environmental considerations.

“At CGH Earth, we believe every space can tell a story when shaped with care,” said Michael Dominic, CEO & Managing Director, CGH Earth. “Sanctuary Amaidiyana is that story brought to life, a quiet refuge that restores balance while gently inspiring creative expression. In harmony with the spirit of Auroville, we have created a space where architecture in intertwined with the land, cuisine honours seasonality and craft, and wellness is a lived experience. Amaidiyana represents eco-luxury with purpose—rooted in awareness, connection, and the joy of meaningful living.”

The architecture has been led by Auroville-based architect Mona Doctor-Pingel, with a design approach that combines contemporary structures with locally sourced materials and artisan-led detailing. Interiors incorporate handcrafted elements, including ceramics, metalwork, and artworks created by local artists, contributing to a differentiated design identity.

The resort includes dedicated wellness infrastructure such as Heiwa and a Watsu pool. Heiwa has been developed as a minimalistic space focused on structured design elements, while the Watsu pool is maintained at 32–34°C and housed within a dome structure designed to support acoustic and ventilation efficiency. The facility is positioned as part of the growing demand for specialised therapy-led wellness services within hospitality environments.

“Amaidiyana brings together the many dimensions of well-being into one harmonious, integrated space. It is not just a place for wellness, but a philosophy that unifies healing practices, conscious tourism and quiet restoration under one roof,” said George Joseph, Vice President – Operations, CGH Earth. “From dual sit-outs and garden-facing rooms to an intimate restaurant, Ayurveda suites, and our Watsu sanctum, every touchpoint is engineered for calm, comfort, and care. Working closely with local artisans, growers, and practitioners, we curate experiences, from e-bike trails and sustainable workshops in Auroville to heritage walks in Pondicherry, that feel personal, responsible, and deeply rooted in place. One can truly experience the best of Auroville, while staying in its immediate periphery..”

He further added, “The retreat’s culinary programme is guided by CGH Earth’s Conscious Cuisine philosophy and the vibrant food cultures of Tamil Nadu and Auroville. Fresh herbs and vegetables are harvested from the on-site organic kitchen garden, complemented by artisanal Auroville cheeses, breads, chocolates, grains, and condiments”.

The food and beverage offering combines regional Tamil cuisine, coastal seafood, and wellness-oriented menus, supported by ingredients sourced from on-site and local producers. The format reflects a broader shift in hospitality where food is being integrated into the overall positioning of wellness properties.

The resort also includes activity-led experiences such as craft workshops, local tours, and wellness practices including yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda therapies. Proximity to Pondicherry allows access to additional cultural and tourism circuits, supporting extended stays.

The launch highlights continued investment in wellness tourism, where operators are developing smaller, experience-driven properties in niche locations. The focus on integrated offerings, including therapy, cuisine, and cultural immersion, indicates a move towards higher-value, differentiated hospitality formats aimed at both domestic and international travellers.
