Popeyes Opens Chennai’s First Green Store With 12th Restaurant in the City

Jubilant FoodWorks Limited has opened a new Popeyes restaurant in Navalur, Chennai, taking the brand’s presence in the city to 12 restaurants. The outlet is also Popeyes’ first green store in India under its “Popeyes Planet First” initiative.

The restaurant is targeting IGBC Gold certification and incorporates measures focused on energy efficiency, water management and resource use. It has 17 solar panels with a total capacity of 9.95 kWp, which are expected to contribute approximately 8.8% of the restaurant’s annual energy consumption.

An integrated energy monitoring system has also been installed to track energy consumption across air-conditioning, pumps and kitchen equipment.

The outlet uses low-flow plumbing fixtures designed to reduce water consumption by over 40%. Rejected water from air-conditioning units and RO purifiers is collected and reused for non-potable applications, including flushing and scrubber systems.

More than 95% of regularly occupied spaces feature indoor plants, while daylighting and ventilation have also been incorporated into the restaurant design.
