Swiggy Records 1 Lakh Modak Orders on Ganesh Chaturthi as Festive Sweet Demand Rises

Swiggy recorded 103,380 Modak orders on Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, 2026, marking a 13.3 percent increase from last year. Demand was concentrated between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM, when the platform averaged 11,500 orders per hour.

Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune recorded the highest Modak demand among metros, while Nashik, Jodhpur and Patna led among emerging markets. Mawa Modak, with an average of 185 orders per hour, along with Ukadiche Modak, Kara Kozhukattai and Kesar Modak were among the most ordered varieties.

Maharashtra accounted for 41 percent of all Modak orders on the platform, with Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Amravati recording the highest demand. Mumbai also accounted for the five highest-value Modak orders nationally, including a Rs. 29,693 order containing an assortment of 144 Modaks.

Festive demand for traditional sweets also increased during Janmashtami and Raksha Bandhan. On Janmashtami on September 4, orders for traditional sweets and mithais rose 33 percent compared with Janmashtami last year. Kaju Katli, Milk Cake and Mathura Peda were among the most ordered items.

Sweet orders on Janmashtami were 74.5 percent higher than the previous day and 60.1 percent higher than the following day. Peda orders increased by around 4x compared with the previous day, while Mathura Peda demand rose 46.4 percent year-on-year. Orders for Kalakand, Shrikhand, Ladoos, Sandesh, Burfi and Kheer also recorded significant increases compared with the previous day.

On Raksha Bandhan on August 28, 2026, sweet orders on Swiggy increased 22.8 percent compared with last year, averaging over 11,500 orders per hour, with demand peaking between 10-11 AM. Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai led metro demand, while Patna, Jodhpur and Surat were the leading emerging markets.

Kaju Katli, Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai and Motichoor Laddus were among the most ordered sweets. Swiggy recorded an average of 1668 Kaju Katli orders per hour, while Gulab Jamun orders averaged 1640 per hour.

Festive dining also contributed to higher demand on Swiggy Dineout. Bookings increased 28.5 percent on August 28-29, 2026 compared with August 8-9, 2025, the Raksha Bandhan weekend last year. Bengaluru led among metros, while Ahmedabad recorded the highest bookings among emerging markets.
