To further expand its presence in India, South African restaurant chain Nando’s is planning to open 30 more outlets. 

At present, it has 11 outlets in India and plans to open around six restaurants every year. 

Sumeet Yadav ,CEO, Nando’s Restaurant said, “We want to make this market as big as the UK, which is like a billion plus dollar market.” 

He added, “Our plan is to open 5-6 restaurants every year, but since we are not a franchise-run operation, we open only when we get a good location, and if we go by this plan, we should have 30 stores in the next five years.” 

The company currently owns five restaurants in Delhi, two in Bangalore, two in Chennai and two in Punjab. 

Nando’s is also planning to sell its range of sauces in independent retail stores in India from May this year. 

Earlier, Nando’s sauces were available only at its outlets. 

David Care, Director, Nando’s Grocery Division said, “For the sauce, in the next five years, what we are looking is at least to have on the official way two million bottles and enter one million households in India.” He added, “The plan for the next two years would be to be in more than 2,000 stores in India.”

Nando’s signature PERi-PERi, crafted with African Bird’s Eye Chili, forms the core of its menu. Known for its flame-grilled preparation, Nando’s offers a range of PERi-PERi flavors, allowing customers to choose their preferred spice level. “All our sauces, bastings, and marinades are made with fresh, real ingredients and have no artificial flavors or colorants,” Bhasin shared. “We flame-grill because it tastes great, and our range of PERi-PERi flavors allows customers to tailor the heat level to their choosing. Nando’s lovers can now enjoy this legendary flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken at our new Casa at CP67 Mall in Mohali.

Nando's journey from South Africa to India began 36 years ago in Johannesburg. Today, the brand has a presence in over 22 countries across five continents, including cities like London, Chicago, Sydney, and Kuala Lumpur. The Mohali location continues this tradition, incorporating elements of Southern African culture into the dining experience. The restaurant’s design showcases contemporary Southern African art and furniture inspired by the region’s aesthetic, offering diners an immersive environment.

Located on the third floor of CP67 Mall, Nando’s in Mohali is open for dine-in service from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday, catering to India’s growing demand for distinctive dining experiences with a global touch.

South African chain Nando’s is all set to expand its delivery business with its first cloud kitchen in Bengaluru, India after its success in London.

The official launch of the state-of-the-art kitchen is slated to be held on 17th January in Sarjapur, Bengaluru, and will enable customers to order, takeout and receive home deliveries.

Nando’s, famed globally for its signature flame-grilledPERi-PERi chicken, is all set to expand its coverage in the city that hold a great taste and zest for great food with this service to tickle taste buds and deliver the best food.

Nando’s already hosts three restaurants in Bengaluru.

It is planning to further propel the new business model across the rest of the India in coming months.

With the cloud kitchen, the brand will make sure to satiate the customer’s palette with super-fast delivery of food.

“We wanted to make our world-famous PERiPERi chicken available to the citizen of Bengaluru, and at the comfort of their home. This channel was a great opportunity to achieve this goal,” added Vishal Gupta, CFO Nando’s India.

Currently Nando’s has 12 restaurants in India spread across Delhi NCR, Chandigarh and Bengaluru with solid expansion plans in near future.

South African fast food major Nando’s is forced to close around 50 of its restaurants in the UK due to a shortage of the chain’s signature peri-peri chicken.

As per a report in BBC, the QSR chain has temporarily shut around 50 outlets across England, Scotland and Wales.

Responding to the customers query and excitement to know the availability of the famed chicken item, it responded describing the situation as “a bit of a mare”.

Nando’s also claimed that it is doing everything to fix the issues in the supply chain.

Customers are able to check via the Nando’s website whether their local restaurant is closed.

“The UK supply chain is having a bit of a ‘mare’ right now. This is having a knock-on effect with some of our restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales. We are doing everything we can to get the peri-peri back where it belongs – on your plates!”

Nando’s is the latest restaurant to join the supply chain shortage in the UK after coronavirus pandemic has subsided in the UK, the restaurant sector has been experiencing wide-scale disruption.

South African restaurant chain Nando’s has joined hands with the volunteer-based zero-funds Robin Hood Army to provide 25,000 fresh, chicken meals to the needy across the slums of Bangalore, Delhi and Chandigarh.

 

Known for its world-famous flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken, its month long  social initiative has been successfully running since July 15, 2020, and will continue until August 15, 2020.

 

Globally, Nando’s has been actively involved in social initiatives to contribute their little bit in giving back to the society.

 

“As a brand, we believe in ‘Changing Lives Together’. The current crisis hasn't been very kind to the vulnerable. Out of the 2,000 meals we’ve distributed over the last 15 days, 70% have been given to daily wage workers who lost their means of livelihood during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sameer Bhasin, CEO, Nando’s who feel that if a worker can have one fresh, hot, nutritious meal a day especially when he doesn’t know where his next meal will come from, then they have reduced his worry considerably.

 

Each Nando’s casa or restaurant in Bangalore, Delhi and Chandigarh will grill a fresh, hot meal of chicken and rice which is packed with love and care keeping all hygiene and sanitation protocols in mind. The Robin Hood Army, with its vast network of volunteers, will distribute these meals to those in need across the three cities. 

 

“Our Robins across the world, try their level best to address the hunger in local communities, and bring smiles to the least fortunate. We are really grateful to partner with global food chain Nando’s and serve 25000 fresh meals to those who need it most across Delhi, Bangalore, and Chandigarh." Restaurants like McDonald’s, Nando’s and Costa Coffee are joining hand by closing their outlets in UK amid coronavirus outbreak.

McDonald’s has closed over 1270 restaurants, Nando’s over 400 and the coffee chain Costa has closed more than 2000 restaurants in the country.

On Friday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said restaurants and cafes must close, but exempted take-away food places.

The three chains said they wanted to protect the wellbeing of staff and customers during the coronavirus outbreak, reported BBC.

The burger chain employs around 135,000 people in the UK, the majority of which are on zero-hours contracts. However, staff employed directly by the company would receive full pay for their scheduled hours until 5 April.

By that time it expects the government's financial aid package, announced on Friday, to have kicked in, with staff paid 80% of their wages.

Previously, McDonald's had closed its seating areas but had continued to offer takeaway and drive-through services.

In a tweet posted on Sunday night, Nando's said its bosses had "decided that the best course of action right now is to temporarily close our restaurants".

It said the health and safety of its customers and staff was its "highest priority".

Nando's has about 20,000 staff in the UK.

Grillers’ Challenge is an annual event which is one of the most engaging internal events of Nando’s to motivate and appreciates the grillers.

After a challenging competition between the top grillers from Nando’s New Delhi, Chennai, Punjab and Bangalore, the National Challenge was won by Mahesh Chand from Bangalore.

He will now be going to Vancouver, Canada to represent India in the International Grillers’ Challenge.

We wish to make the India National Grillers’ Challenge the most unforgettable experience for our Grillers. Nando’s Grillers or ‘Nandocas’ battled it out in the Regional Grillers’ Challenge in the first week of July.

The winners were flown to New Delhi for the National Challenge along with the Patraos of their respective restaurants. The competition saw four finalists take to the grill, cooking a whole, fresh chicken to perfection before serving it to a panel of guest judges, including food connoisseur - Osama Jalali; eminent F&B writer and blogger - Rupali Dean; celebrated Chef - Shailendra; MD of MJ Logistics (Logistics Partner of Nando’s) - Anil Arora and Sr. Director, Deloitte, Rahul Vig and a huge Nando’s lover.

The judges were asked to rate the chicken on the basis of browning of skin, grill marks, cutting of the chicken, basting, tenderness, juiciness and overall brand fitness. Nandocas will also be treated to a fantastic array of events while in Vancouver including a special gala dinner and a fun-filled tour of the cultural city.
