Restaurant India News: Swiggy Scales Food on Train Service to 152 Railway Stations Across India

Swiggy has expanded its ‘Food on Train’ service in collaboration with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, increasing its operational presence to 152 railway stations across India over the past year. The scale-up comes amid rising consumer demand for greater meal variety and convenience during rail travel.

The company reported that the service network has grown 117 percent, expanding from 70 stations in February 2025 to 152 stations as of February 2026. The increase reflects a wider push into high-traffic transit hubs and regional railway stops, positioning rail catering as a growing segment within the broader food delivery and travel ecosystem.

Swiggy stated that it will continue to prioritize network diversity by strengthening coverage across both major junctions and regional stations such as Itarsi, Tirunelveli, and Kharagpur. The expansion strategy indicates a focus on unlocking demand beyond metropolitan rail corridors and integrating food logistics with passenger mobility patterns.

In addition to network growth, the platform has introduced a Holi-themed food menu for travellers, available from February 28 to March 8. The company also expanded its ‘Train Friendly Dishes’ category, a curated segment designed to suit high-speed rail consumption with packaging and menu formats tailored for convenience.

"This nationwide expansion is perfectly timed for the Holi travel rush. We will be focusing on diversity by doubling down on transit hubs across India, from major junctions to regional stops like Itarsi, Tirunelveli, and Kharagpur," said Deepak Maloo, Vice President for food strategy, customer experience and new initiatives at Swiggy.

The move reflects the increasing convergence of food delivery infrastructure with transport networks. As railway travel remains a primary mode of long-distance mobility in India, the integration of platform-based ordering systems with IRCTC’s passenger data and station access points signals a structural shift in onboard catering. The expansion to 152 stations within one year demonstrates the operational scalability of tech-enabled meal distribution within regulated transport environments, positioning rail-based food delivery as a growing vertical within India’s organised food service market.
