Swiggy has announced a major expansion of its Food on Train service, which is now available at 122 railway stations across the country. Along with widening its network, the platform has extended its meal pre-order window from 24 hours to 96 hours, allowing passengers to plan their journeys with far greater ease and flexibility.
The new stations added to the network cover routes across India, including Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh, Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Alwar in Rajasthan, Kozhikode in Kerala, Khurda Road in Odisha, Yesvantpur in Karnataka, and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. The company said the expansion reflects its commitment to improving access to reliable, high-quality food options for rail travellers.
“Food is an integral part of festive celebrations in India, and our Food on Train service ensures that travellers can enjoy familiar flavours even while on the move,” said Deepak Maloo, VP – Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives at Swiggy. He added that with the extended four-day pre-booking window and a network now spanning 122 stations, passengers can plan their meals well in advance and rely on trusted, high-quality options.
The recent festive season, observed between October 16 and November 3, 2025, brought strong engagement for the Food on Train service. Biryani emerged as the most-ordered dish, followed by Masala Dosa, Burger, Pav Bhaji, Margarita Pizza and Corn Chaat. Dessert orders also saw a notable rise, with more than a third of travellers adding a sweet dish to their meal. Items such as Triple Chocomelt Waffle, Tender Coconut Ice Cream, Gulab Jamun, Rasgulla, Biscoff Cheesecake Jar and Black Forest Pastry were among the favourites.
Swiggy’s lineup of partner restaurants during this period included both national and regional names such as Haldiram’s, Paradise Biryani, A2B, Hotel Aryaas, Annai Restaurant, Rominus Pizza & Burger and McDonald’s. The platform said this mix ensures that passengers have access to not just local specialities but also familiar national brands while on the move.
The festive season also revealed clear regional patterns in food preferences. Travellers from northern routes gravitated towards Biryani, Aloo Paratha and Red Paprika Pizza, while passengers in the south preferred traditional breakfast staples such as Dosa, Curd Rice, Pongal, Poori Sabzi and Idli. Eastern passengers showed a preference for Thalis and rice bowls, and western travellers leaned towards street-food favourites such as Pav Bhaji and Vada Pav.
Several trains witnessed particularly high uptake of the service. The Garib Rath Express (Chennai to Delhi), Seshadri Express, Sabari Superfast Express, and Kerala Express were among the busiest. In one instance, 28 out of 72 passengers in a single coach of the SMVT Bengaluru-New Tinsukia Festival Special received meals at the same time through Swiggy’s service, the company said.
With its expanded footprint and longer pre-order window, Swiggy said it aims to strengthen its role in the travel-food ecosystem by providing convenience, consistency and diverse meal choices to passengers across India’s vast rail network.
