Restaurant India News: Popeyes Eyes Mexico for Massive Growth with 300 New Outlets Planned

Popeyes, one of the fastest-growing global chicken quick-service restaurant (QSR) brands, has announced new development agreements with regional franchisees in Mexico. The move marks a major step in the company’s long-term expansion strategy, with a committed pipeline of more than 300 new restaurants planned across the Northwest, West, Central, and Southeast regions of the country over the next decade.

The brand’s parent company, Restaurant Brands International (RBI), said the new franchise partners bring extensive operational experience, local market understanding, and strong execution capabilities to support large-scale development. Star Louisiana, a long-standing Popeyes developer, will continue expanding the brand in Jalisco in the West region. Border Crunch will lead the rollout in the Northwest, while Grupo Euro will drive development across the Central region. Grupo Berny will oversee the brand’s growth in the Southeast.

“Mexico represents a tremendous growth opportunity for Popeyes, and we're thrilled to be partnering with experienced and passionate franchisees who share our vision,” said Duncan Montero, LAC President of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), the parent company of Popeyes.

He added that Popeyes’ New Orleans-style menu, including its signature chicken—freshly prepared, marinated for at least 12 hours, hand-battered, breaded with unique seasonings, and slow-cooked to perfection—continues to resonate strongly with consumers. “We're confident in our ability to win in Mexico over the long term,” Montero said.

The new expansion phase is expected to create thousands of jobs across local communities and further strengthen Popeyes’ supply chain and restaurant operations in the country. It will also introduce the brand’s signature Chicken Sandwich, which has become a global hit, to new customers in Mexico.

This move builds on Popeyes’ growing international momentum following recent openings in Costa Rica, Italy, and the Balkans. The brand currently operates in more than 45 countries worldwide, reaffirming RBI’s focus on scaling Popeyes as a leading player in the international chicken QSR market.
