Zen Chai, a new-age bubble tea brand inspired by Taiwanese beverage craftsmanship and India’s deep-rooted tea culture, has launched its first outlet in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The brand aims to reposition bubble tea from a passing global fad to an everyday lifestyle beverage for the modern Indian consumer. Zen Chai marks the fourth concept from Foodsta Kitchens, following its flagship Southeast Asian brand Nasi and Mee, Japanese QSR Kokoro, and Asian bowls format Wok Sop.
While tea and coffee have long been part of India’s daily ritual, bubble tea remains an emerging category. Globally, however, it has seen rapid growth, particularly among younger consumers influenced by travel, social media, and pop culture. Zen Chai enters the market with a clear focus: to introduce authentic bubble tea to India by building a culinary bridge between East and South Asia.
The menu spans fruit-forward and indulgent options. Fruit-based bubble teas include flavours such as Mango, Hibiscus, Lychee, Peach and Passion Fruit. The milk-based, non-tea range features global favourites like Matcha, Milo, Taro and Thai Tea. Layered smoothies such as Mango Berry and Lychee Hibiscus add a visual and textural element to the offering. For those looking beyond classic boba, the menu also includes spritzers topped with rainbow jelly and other textured additions.
Customisation is central to the Zen Chai experience. Guests can personalise their drinks with toppings such as classic boba pearls, brown sugar pearls, nata de coco, honey jelly and rainbow jelly, allowing each beverage to be tailored to individual taste and texture preferences.
Operating in a convenient grab-and-go format, the store caters to quick beverage pick-ups while also offering comfortable seating for those who wish to linger whether to catch up on work, meet friends or take a break. Targeted at Gen Z and millennial consumers, Zen Chai positions bubble tea as a playful, aspirational yet accessible lifestyle beverage.
To maintain authenticity, the brand sources its core bubble tea ingredients directly from Taiwan, while its tea blends come from the Nilgiri region in India. Organic milk is procured locally, creating beverages that combine international technique with high-quality Indian ingredients. With its debut in Whitefield, Bengaluru, the brand plans to expand further, aiming to grow bubble tea culture in India through authenticity, quality sourcing and flavour innovation.
