Restaurant India News: Swiggy Introduces ‘No Added Sugar’ Food Category Across Major Indian Cities

Swiggy Ltd, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has expanded its healthy food portfolio with the introduction of a new ‘No Added Sugar’ category. The move aims to simplify mindful eating for consumers seeking healthier alternatives without compromising on taste.

The category offers over 1.5 lakh food items from more than 50,000 restaurants and is currently available across ten cities including Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. The company plans to expand this offering to more cities in the coming weeks. This development follows the launch of Swiggy’s ‘High Protein’ category in July, reflecting the platform’s continued focus on nutrition-driven dining options.

The ‘No Added Sugar’ menu is divided into two sub-categories — Naturally Sweetened and Not Sweetened. The Naturally Sweetened selection features items made with natural ingredients such as dates, fruits, and purees. Dishes include Date & Nut Smoothie, Banana Pancakes, Apple Cinnamon Oats, and Fig & Almond Energy Bars. The Not Sweetened section offers sugar-free beverages like tea, coffee, and juices that contain no added sweeteners.

Currently, the selection includes over 20,000 ice creams, more than 12,000 juices, over 10,000 hot beverages including tea and coffee, and more than 7,000 cakes available across the participating cities. Free sugars such as sucrose, jaggery, honey, and other processed sweeteners have been excluded to align with modern nutrition standards and address growing consumer demand for transparency in food preparation.

Deepak Maloo, Vice President – Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives, Swiggy, said, “The festive season is here, and we know that celebrations are incomplete without gorging on your favorite sweets with the inevitable guilt of added sugar. We believe mindful eating shouldn't mean missing out. That's why we launched the 'No Added Sugar' category, packed with delicious food and beverage items made only with natural or approved low-calorie sweeteners. This is just the start. We are committed to constantly adding new dishes, expanding to more cities and improving the product basis customer feedback. Looking ahead, we also intend to enhance transparency by clearly outlining the source of the sweetener—be it dates, monk fruit, or others—ensuring you always make the most informed choice.”

The launch signals Swiggy’s broader effort to evolve with India’s growing base of health-conscious consumers. As the demand for cleaner, transparent, and health-oriented food continues to grow, Swiggy’s introduction of the ‘No Added Sugar’ category marks another step in aligning food delivery platforms with the changing preferences of Indian diners. The initiative also underscores a larger industry trend where food aggregators and restaurants are working together to redefine convenience dining with healthier, more informed choices.
