Restaurant India News: Auriga Hospitality Launches ‘Public’ Beer Hall & Snack Bar in Versova

Auriga Hospitality, the team behind Bonobo, has opened a new no-reservations beer hall and snack bar called Public in Versova. Inspired by classic Indian beer halls, old gymkhanas and Irani cafés, Public is designed as a simple, affordable neighbourhood hangout.

Designed by Shweta Kaushik of SKID, the 1,700 sq ft space can seat around 100 guests. Located in the former Jamjar Diner space, the interiors move away from dark bar themes and instead embrace a bright, open and unpretentious look. Exposed beams, metal elements, stone finishes inspired by Kota and Kadapa, aluminium and simple wood details give the space a relaxed, yet contemporary Mumbai feel.

The concept focuses on cold beer, straight spirits and Indian regional bar snacks — with no fries or nachos on the menu. The idea is to create a relaxed space for regulars to drop in for long drinking sessions and easy evenings with friends. Public offers a range of regular and craft beers, along with a full spirits menu. While cocktails are not the focus, the team is open to making simple favourites on request. With affordable pricing, the bar aims to bridge the gap between expensive cocktail bars and traditional quarter bars.

The food menu is curated by Chef Sohini Bhattacharya, features hyper-regional Indian dishes designed to pair well with drinks. Divided into sections such as Touchings, Snacks, Sigri/Tawa specials, Tangra and Mountain classics, along with a few meal options, the menu celebrates familiar flavours.

“This is food meant to be eaten with your hands, with a drink in the other regional, flavourful and not overcomplicated,” says Chef Sohini.
