The well-known Rameshwaram Cafe in Bangalore continues to thrive, even after a recent bomb blast, by introducing a new food truck. This traditional South Indian food outlet is now trending due to the launch of "Rameshwaram On Wheels," a mobile kitchen designed to cater to various events.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art kitchen, the food truck can prepare 120 idlis at a time and can be customized for corporate or personal gatherings. Despite the recent challenges, the cafe remains a popular destination for its traditional fare.
Rameshwaram Cafe reportedly earns Rs 4.5 crore per month, with annual revenue exceeding Rs 50 crore. Founders Divya and Raghavendra Rao, who met through a mutual friend, opened their first branch in Indiranagar in 2021. They have not only captivated customers with their culinary offerings but also created a significant social impact by employing over 200 people.

Though the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has cleared the proposal for issuing licence to food trucks at different locations in its district, the health department is still examining various factors before finalising the new policy.
Once prepared, the policy will be placed before the House for final approval and implementation, reported TNN.

“The proposal approved in the standing committee and House meeting was private and moved by an elected representative. That’s why before implementing the proposal on ground we need to prepare a policy and get the preamble passed again,” shared an SDMC official.
The department is examining various factors such as provision for taking permission from the land-owing agencies where these food vans will be placed, process for obtaining fire NOCs, their feasible timings and waste disposal process to avoid inconvenience to people living in the neighbourhood.

“We are going through all these points and it will take at least a month to present the policy again,” he added.
Marriott International Inc. today announced the launch of Marriott on Wheels - its first-ever mobile food truck in India. Commencing its journey from Mumbai, the Marriott food truck will be seen travelling across six destinations in India.
It will be serving its patrons signature dishes and local favourites from Marriott properties in the respective cities. This food truck was unveiled at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu by Craig Smith, President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Marriott International and Neeraj Govil, Area Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International along with actor and producer Saif Ali Khan.
Cruising through the cities of Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Lucknow, Pune, Madurai and Kochi, this food truck will be covering a distance of 6761 km over 40 days. Through this initiative, Marriott International Inc. aspires to manifest on the F&B strength of its Select Serve Brands - Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton and Aloft Hotels.
“We are proud to launch Marriott’s first ever mobile food truck in the country. With culinary experiences driving the focus for Marriott this year, the launch of Marriott on Wheels is yet another initiative that showcases our strength and leadership in the F&B industry,” shared Govil.
Spending two days in each city, Marriott on Wheels will be stationed at some of the most popular hubs, such as, Food Truck Park in Ahmedabad, Sahara Market Plaza in Lucknow and Info Park in Kochi. Upon its arrival in the city, an Executive chef from a Marriott property will be present on-board, serving a limited time menu, specially curated for the food truck. Some of the dishes served on-board would include Mutton tikka quesadillas which will be available in Amritsar, Karaikudi chicken wings in Madurai and Kosha mangsho kathi roll in Pune to name a few.
As part of Marriott International’s commitment of reducing environmental impacts, eco-friendly items such as containers made of bagasse and glass water bottles will be used on-board Marriott on Wheels. This will be implemented not just in Mumbai but also across all the other six cities where the food truck will be present.

Mumbai based R&A Foods has acquired Nilgai Foods ‘Pico’ Express in an all-stock deal.
The chain which owns QSR chains like Paninaro and Pronto has however did not disclose the financial details of the deal.
“R&A Foods is valued at Rs 30 crore after the transaction. Also, Nilgai Foods, the parent company of Pico Express, has now become a significant stakeholder in R&A Foods,” shared Aditya Parikh, director of R&A Foods.
The company is also capitalising itself on healthy QSR segment as all the Pico outlet will now be rebranded as Paninaroa health food brand in next few months.
"With the addition of the Pico outlets, Paninaroa will now be in a unique position. Our goal is to provide fresh, healthy food to every commercial district within Mumbai and with our combined footprint; we will be able to do just that,” added Parikh.
At present, Pico Express has 11 outlets across Mumbai. Meanwhile Paninarao food is planning to add 22 more outlets in Mumbai by the end of the year, expanding the brand to Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad.
Post the rebranding, there will be 13 Paninaro outlets in Mumbai along with a food truck under the same brand, added the statement.
"In some areas of our operation, we saw that there was overlap in business and bringing the two brands together would bring in cost efficiencies," said Abhay Jaiswal, CEO, Nilgai Foods. "Moreover, our ethos and customer segment is identical."
Started in 2011, Nilgai Foods is an integrated foods business which manufactures and sells jams, sauces, dips, dressings and baked goods under the brand name of Pico through a network of third-party retailers across Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
"Nilgai will now focus on processed foods and, in a couple of months, expand the retail footprint to more cities," added Jaiswal.
