Haldiram’s Temporarily Closes London Restaurant After Viral Debut

Haldiram’s has temporarily closed its first full-service restaurant in the United Kingdom, located at Leicester Square, just weeks after its launch in June 2026.

The restaurant, which marked the brand’s entry into the UK dine-in market, attracted significant attention following its opening. Videos of long queues, particularly from the Indian diaspora, went viral on social media as customers visited the outlet for chaat, sweets and traditional Indian snacks.

The closure is temporary and has been in effect since July 21 due to scheduled electrical works being carried out in the area by UK Power Networks. The company has clarified that the shutdown is linked to essential infrastructure work and is not related to operational or business issues. The restaurant is expected to reopen once the electrical work is completed.

The London outlet represents a key milestone in Haldiram’s international expansion strategy. Founded in Bikaner in 1937, the brand has built a global presence across multiple countries and is now expanding its dine-in business beyond India.

Despite the temporary closure, the strong customer response following the launch indicates continued demand for the restaurant when it resumes operations.
