Restaurant India News: Zomato's District App Launches Splitpay Feature for Restaurant Bill Splitting

District by Zomato has introduced Splitpay, a new in-app feature designed to simplify bill payments during group dining occasions. The launch reflects the growing role of technology in enhancing customer convenience across the hospitality sector by addressing one of the most common friction points associated with dining out.

Integrated directly into the District app, Splitpay enables diners to divide restaurant bills and settle their individual shares at the table. The feature eliminates the traditional process where one person pays the entire amount upfront, followed by multiple bank transfers, payment reminders, or manual calculations among the group.

Users can enter the total bill amount, choose the number of diners, and split the payment either equally or through customised allocations. Each participant can then complete their payment through the app without exchanging payment details.

The introduction of Splitpay highlights a broader shift within the hospitality industry, where digital tools are increasingly being deployed to streamline the end-to-end guest experience, extending beyond reservations and discovery to include payment solutions. In addition to simplifying settlements, District has incorporated cashback benefits, allowing each diner to earn rewards based on their individual contribution towards the bill.

Rahul Ganjoo, CEO, District by Zomato, said, "A meal out belongs to the whole table, but it has always ended with the least social moment: one person paying and everyone else doing maths. It's something we noticed at restaurant tables, on social media, and in conversations with our users, so we built Splitpay to fix it. It's one more step in the same direction we've been moving all along: taking the effort out of every stage of going out, so the only thing people take home is the experience itself."

To support the rollout, District has launched a marketing campaign featuring veteran actors Boman Irani and Anupam Kher. The campaign draws on the familiar cultural ritual of diners competing to pay the restaurant bill, using humour to demonstrate how Splitpay offers an alternative by enabling every member of the group to pay their respective share while also receiving cashback.

With Splitpay, District by Zomato continues to expand its role within the dining journey, focusing on convenience-led features that support changing consumer expectations around speed, flexibility, and digital engagement.
