Burger King will be launching a plant-based version of its famous Whopper burger that looks just like real meat in Sweden, Europe.

Sweden will be the first European country where the food chain will sell the new Unbelievable Whopper. Burger King is already selling veggie burgers, but they mainly appeal to vegetarians not so interested in having a patty that tastes and looks like meat.

Burger King had tested the Impossible Whopper in the US in April. The company’s move was aimed at selling more to meat eaters. The Impossible Whopper is created with a plant-based burger from Impossible Foods, a Redwood City, California-based startup.

But, Burger King will serve a different variety of patty to Swedish restaurants for complying with national restrictions on genetically-modified food, which the Impossible Burger contains.

Iwo Zakowski, CEO of Burger King Sweden, said, “Many guests are asking for more options to reduce their meat consumption. We hope that the plant-based alternative will appeal to both new and existing guests.”
