Bisleri, one of India's packaged mineral water supplying brands has reached the UAE shores.

Bisleri has already made its presence felt in close to 1000 retail outlets across seven emirates, with plans to be in over 4500 stores by end of the year 2017.

It has introduced 1.5 litre and 500 ml bottled water with plans to expand into small SKU's (200 to 330 ml) and large segments (5 litre to 5 gallons) gradually.

Ramesh Chauhan, MD and Chairman, Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd, said, "Bisleri is the No. 1 mineral water brand in India having more than 60 per cent share in India. It is now introduced in gulf through an association with Korus, which specialises in launching fast moving consumer brands in F and B markets. We already have a strong emotional appeal among the Indian diaspora and with our premium quality bottle, sweet ground water and differentiated colour we are sure to appeal to the cosmopolitan population of the UAE.”

Chauhan further added, "We have Vedica for the upper end, which we shall launch at the appropriate time. The next step is to increase distribution across the different channels — retail, hotels, restaurants and cafeterias. As with every new brand, this will be a step-wise process and will take its required time. But we are confident we will get there soon."

?Beverage companies to sell packaged mineral water at uniform prices, says Ram Vilas Paswan
?Beverage companies to sell packaged mineral water at uniform prices, says Ram Vilas Paswan

Beverage giant PepsiCo and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to sell packaged mineral water at uniform prices, said minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution Ram Vilas Paswan.

PepsiCo’s mineral water brand Aquafina will be sold at the same price across the country, while BCCI has decided that prices of packaged mineral water, across all brands, will not be higher than MRP at its stadiums.

Paswan said, "We have had one achievement —Pepsico’s Aquafina will be sold at one price. BCCI has also issued a circular that all stadiums will sell packaged water at one price. Prices (of water) will be one inside and outside the stadium. Dual MRP is against law. It can attract legal action, and it is happening through National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC)." Regarding cinema halls and restaurants charging higher than MRP, Paswan said there can be two solutions — the consumer should be made more aware or the consumer courts should be approached.

Last year he said, "Charging above MRP is violation of the law. But we still see at airports, multiplex and hotels, that packaged water is sold at more than the MRP. This needs to be stopped."

Vij took a serious note of this issue during his meeting with senior officers of FDA Department in Chandigarh, an official release said.

“water samples of sealed bottles of two brands taken from Palwal were found completely carbonated and water of another brand taken from Jind was also to be unsafe for usage,” added the release.

The minister immediately issued directions to ban the sale of sealed water of three brands in market, the release said, adding, samples of other items, including Khoya, two brands of Desi ghee and one of flavoured milk from Hissar also were found to be sub-standard.
