Restaurant India News: Portal Opens in Kala Ghoda, Blending All-Day Bistro Culture with Thoughtful Cocktails

A new entrant in South Mumbai’s dining landscape, Portal has opened its doors in Kala Ghoda, positioning itself as an all-day bistro and bar designed to transition seamlessly from morning coffee to late-evening cocktails.

Set within the cultural precinct, the 50-seater space spans 1,450 sq. ft. and reflects a design language rooted in the neighbourhood’s artistic and architectural identity.

Conceptualised by architect Suhani Lal Sanghra of Sparc Design, the interiors combine arched ceilings and neo-classical columns with contemporary materials, creating a setting that balances heritage cues with a modern sensibility.

Portal marks the return of hospitality entrepreneur Punam H. Singh, who brings over three decades of experience across retail and hospitality.

“I wanted Portal to feel intuitive. A place where you arrive, settle in, and let the experience unfold,” she shared.

The kitchen is led by Chef Gregory Bazire, who curates a menu shaped by global influences and familiar flavours, designed to reflect evolving dining habits. The bar programme, developed by the team behind Spill It, takes a structured approach to cocktails, emphasising balance and clarity over theatrics, with inspiration drawn from Art Deco principles.

Wine also plays a central role, with the list organised by drinking style rather than geography, aligning with the brand’s broader focus on accessibility and fluid experiences.

With its flexible format and design-led approach, Portal aims to cater to Mumbai’s growing demand for spaces that move beyond traditional meal occasions, offering a setting where guests can engage across multiple dayparts in a single, cohesive environment.
