
In a move aimed at accelerating growth and enhancing operational excellence, McDonald's has announced a series of senior leadership appointments across its global and U.S. businesses.
Skye Anderson has been named Chief Operating Officer of McDonald’s USA, a newly created role designed to unify and strengthen restaurant execution. She will oversee core functions including U.S. National Operations, Restaurant Development, McOpCo, and provide strategic oversight to Supply Chain and Technology. Anderson returns to the U.S. business after serving as President of Global Business Services (GBS) since 2023, where she played a pivotal role in building and scaling the function globally.
With over 25 years at the company, including her tenure as U.S. West Zone President, she brings deep operational and leadership experience.
Meanwhile, Mason Smoot has been appointed Senior Vice President, Global Franchising and Delivery, joining the Global Senior Leadership Team. A 30-year veteran of the company, Smoot will lead global franchising standards and franchisee engagement. Most recently serving as Chief Restaurant Officer for McDonald’s USA, he has been instrumental in driving operational discipline, improving customer satisfaction, and expanding the brand’s delivery business.
Additionally, Mattijs Backx has been promoted to Chief Transformation & Services Officer. In this role, he will lead Global Business Services, focusing on simplifying operations and enhancing service delivery across markets. Backx has been key in advancing McDonald’s transformation agenda, particularly in areas such as enterprise data, analytics, and AI integration. Prior to joining McDonald’s, he held leadership roles at global organizations including PepsiCo, Lufthansa, and Office Depot.
These leadership changes underscore McDonald’s focus on building a strong, future-ready organization while continuing to deliver consistent customer experiences and drive global expansion.
