Its brigade of chefs takes the diner through guided-dining experiences traversing across a series of small bites such as the Spiced Aubergine and Sago presented in a resplendent galaxy of flavours highlighted by a Byadagi chilli emulsion wrapped in a roasted eggplant sheet, the Sago Yogurt in a reinterpretation of the classic Bagala Bath featuring an exotic dried berry tamarind sauce, the Fennel Pannacotta egg dessert served in a bird’s nest and a mini hammer to crack it open with.

Mayfair Hotels & Resorts to launch NFT souvenirs for its patrons

Mayfair Hotels & Resorts, the Bhubaneswar-based luxury hotel chain with properties across the country, is partnering with Beyond Imagination Technologies (BIT), a blockchain solutions startup, to pioneer NFT souvenirs for its customers.

The non-fungible tokens, unique in the realm of hospitality, can be seen as loyalty badges to reward the 5-star boutique brand’s long-time patrons.

With hotels and resorts now more than ever looking to innovate to expand their customer base, and boost revenues in the wake of the pandemic, blockchain-based initiatives like that introduced by BIT are likely to take off in the coming years. But as the hospitality sector keeps evolving, the past turns into inspiration for the present.

“The pace at which the hospitality landscape is changing is unprecedented, and hotels and resorts must stay up to speed to remain relevant. As a blockchain startup focused on providing answers to common challenges, we at BIT believe that through NFTs, we can offer hospitality brands ways to enrich their relationships with their guests, and grow their revenue streams. Mayfair Hotels is already a trusted brand, but by embracing NFTs, it can go places while maintaining its niche identity,” shared Nikhil Goyal, Founder, Beyond Imagination Technologies.

Sharing their thoughts, Bjorn Noel DeNiese, Advisor Mayfair Hotels & Resorts & MD Mayfair Elixir, said, "Some tech has the potential to transform the prospects of businesses. That’s why teaming up with BIT can only be good news for our future growth, both when it comes to holding on to our loyal customers and engaging with new ones.”

Service charge on food bills: HC grants 2 weeks to restaurant owners to respond
Service charge on food bills: HC grants 2 weeks to restaurant owners to respond

The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted two weeks to the associations of hotel and restaurant owners to file their rejoinder to the affidavit submitted by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) on the levy of service charge on food bills.

The high court was hearing petitions by National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) and Federation of Hotels and Restaurant Associations of India challenging CCPA's July 4 guidelines prohibiting hotels and restaurants from levying service charge on food bills, reported PTI.

“The counsel for petitioners prays for and are granted two weeks’ time to file rejoinder to the reply filed by the CCPA in the petitions," said Justice Yashwant Varma earlier last November while hearing the matter.

The NRAI has mentioned to the High Court that the CCPA ban under the July 4 order was “arbitrary, untenable and ought to be quashed" as it was imposed without an appreciation of the facts and circumstances.

“The levy of service charge has been a standing practice in the hospitality industry for more than 80 years which is evident from the fact that the Supreme Court took notice of this concept way back in 1964," read the petition filed by the restaurant organisation.

It also read that the levying of service charge has a socio-economic angle as well. The system of levying service charge ensures that there is a systematic and logical distribution of service charge collection amongst the employees and not just the employee serving the customer in the restaurant.

The Centre and CCPA have contended before the high court that hotels and restaurants were openly flouting the guidelines and collecting service charge on food bills from consumers involuntarily, even when they were dissatisfied with the services.

The submission was made by the authorities earlier in their application seeking vacation of stay granted by the high court on the CCPA's July 4 guidelines prohibiting hotels and restaurants from levying service charge on food bills.

However, on July 20 the single judge 20 passed an interim order staying the guidelines. Thereafter, the Centre and CCPA challenged the order before the division bench which asked the authorities to approach the single judge for appropriate relief.
