Sh. R.N. Kalita
Director - Catering Services, IRCTC

Armed with an MA in Economics and an LLB graduate, Sh. Kalita joined Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1982 (Civil Services 1981 exam batch). He trained in multifarious subjects ranging from Multimodal Transport Management in Brugge, Belgium, to Consultant Selection Procedure for ADB funded Projects.

He has equal and diverse fields of experience. During his 31 long years of service, he worked in the Commercial, Operations and Safety Departments of N.F.Railway, Central Railway and N.C.Railway in various capacities before joining RVNL. Sh. Kalita was working as Executive Director-Marketing in Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL). He worked as Director on the Boards of Krishnapatnam Railway Co. Ltd., Bharuch Dahej Railway Co. Ltd., Kutch Railway Co. Ltd. and Angul Sukinda Railway Ltd. He was acting Managing Director in Krishnapatnam Railway Co. Ltd. for three-and-a half years and was selected to take over as MD of the SPV before he joined IRCTC. He is currently holds the position of Director-Catering Services, IRCTC.

He has toured extensively in Europe, USA and Bangladesh as a delegate of various Study Tours and Exchange Programmes.

Besides authoring newspaper articles from time to time, he has a flair for music, acting and anchoring of shows. He has been a popular quiz master on TV and radio. He has acted in films and on stage too.

Sh. Kalita has won several accolades in his career, including President of India’s ‘Silver Star’ and ‘Silver Elephant’ medals for his contribution towards scouting in India, Railway Minister’s ‘Award of Merit’ and ‘Best Quiz Master of Assam’ award by Assam Sports Association.
